Simply remove radiator cap and drain the coolant. Remove heater hoses from the engine, placed the stepped adapter end of the Back Flush tool into the hose opposite of the one connected to the water pump. Connect the adapter to the shop water supply. Turn water supply on and open the valve to allow water to flow through the heater core. Once you see clear, clean water, you heater core is clean.

I have a 1998 GMC Jimmy and the heat had just stopped working on one of the first cold days of the season. I did a little checking and the water line going into the heater core was hot the one coming out was only warm. So, from that I knew that there was some blockage to the heater core. I did not want to tear the dash apart to put in a new heater core, so I decided to reverse flush it to see if that would help. I got some clear 5/8 and 3/4 inch clear hose, hooked it to the heater core so I could watch it flush. Some junk came out on the first flush, so I switched to the other input side and flushed it again. I went back and forth several times until the water was perfectly clear. I flushed into a bucket so I could see what was coming out. It worked and it is much hotter than it ever was before. I also changed the antifreeze. Saved big bucks on heater core replacement.

I didn’t realize I needed this until I struggled flushing my extremely clogged heater core. I backflushed and flushed normal flow until the water came out clear and this made it extremely easy (and less frustrating) to clean out. Now I have hot heat!

Worked perfectly on my 1998 Ford Ranger. Cleared out all the crud that had accumulated in the heater core over the years. I alternated back and forth between the heater core inlet and outlet until the water was clear in color. Make sure you alternate back and forth more times than you think. Every time I thought I had everything cleared out, I would change the flow direction and more nasty stuff would come out. I was gentle with the pressure, so as to not damage the heater core. I now have heat in the truck again!

Used it today to flush out my heater core on my FJC and it did a great job, used dome clear PVC tubing to hook it up and it took all of about 15 min to complete.

Would work fine if I had been able to realize the valve was manual and not an air (Schrader) valve like I assumed.
