BumperBully Overview

Bumper Bully Black - Sleek and simple

The Bumper Bully offers an extra-wide bumper protector surface 46"x12”, which means it covers more of your car bumper. The best feature of the BumperBully car bumper guard is its unique shape and design; crafted to complement the graceful lines of all makes and models. The wider top portion gives maximum protection, while the lower portion tapers inward to ensure the product (if installed properly) will not block the exhaust pipes (you should never block vehicle exhaust pipes).

The patented stabilizer bars enable the product to remain firmly in place on your bumper to offer maximum protection. The stabilizer bars add stability to the top of the BumperBully, preventing the corners from folding back and leaving your bumper exposed.

So far, so good, but I wish it was a little wider to cover more of the rear bumper. I researched several brands before going with this one. I wanted to get the larger brand that covered more of the back, but it was like a thick gym mat and I feared it wouldn't fit in my small trunk when driving. This one bends easily, so I can fit it in the trunk. The velcro straps hold well to the carpet floor, although I did notice some carpet pilling that wasn't there before.I only use it when parked in my apartment's private lot, as my neighbors are awful drivers and keep playing bumper cars with each others' vehicles. This item covers my license plate and I didn't want to cut the rubber mid-piece out, so I don't use it when parked on the street for fear of getting a ticket (for blocking the license plate). Also, I hear in big cities, these units get stolen like crazy, so that is another consideration, if you'll be using it in NYC, LA, etc.My pet peeve is when I see people driving with this on. I never do that, and the company warns against it. The friction will scratch your car's paint job.Hopefully some day car makers will get smart and put real rubber bumpers on cars again, like in the good old days. Wishful thinking, knowing that fuel economy and lightweight bodies drive their designs. Until then, we have to use products like Bumper Bully, and I think it is a great item to own!

I saw one of these on several cars on the road, and thought it was a good idea. I know there are several other companies that offer cheaper prices and slightly different models. I can't say that I am an expert on these bumpers, but I do know from experience that you generally get what you pay for. Other companies might not give you as much coverage and / or give you a solid bumper. I suppose at the end of the day, a bumper protector will do what it says it will do. But here's why I went with Bumper Bully.Even despite the additional shipping cost (for a Prime member like me).1. I figured that it was better to be proactive in protecting my bumper (on Benz, black). I consider myself to be a generally safe and good driver, but with parallel parking comes scratches. Both from my mistakes and from others'.2. It seemed well-made, and it was! Solid and thick rubber. I really felt like it covered my bumper well without looking bulky / too much.3. (This I figured out after purchase) It was easy to install. You have two options: (1) velcro it on the cargo mat of your trunk, or (2) stick it on the side, I think - I don't remember since I used the velcro option. There is even space to cut out some part of it should your license plate be covered. My SUV's plate on the gate, so I did not have to do any cutting.4. (This was unfounded, I know ... but ... ) The cars on the road that had the Bumper Bully were high-end cars in addition to mid-range cars (Toyotas, BMW, Benz, Acuras, Lexus). So to me, that indicated its practicality and impressiveness of it -- after all, a bumper protector is not sexy-looking. But you want to go with one that works well if you decide to get one, right?

I live in a part of town that has almost exclusively parallel parking. So getting bumper protection was an absolute must when I bought my new black car. It was almost scary looking around and seeing car after car of scoffed and scratched bumpers. This thing works like a charm. The extra padding is well worth the money as it definitely provides an extra layer of padding and protection. In fact, for the most part, rear bumpers seem to get hit by a parallel parker's front bumper license plate, which tends to jut out a bit. The extra padding makes sure that even a more forceful bump won't leave a single ding or scratch. The bumper bully attaches very easily via velcro straps to the floor of my trunk and couldn't be easier to use.Now there are a couple of shortcoming. First, the bully only covers the majority of the rear bumper (I have a mid-size sedan) and importantly the edges of the bumper are not covered. And for parallel parkers, that is typically where a person will scratch your car as they pull out of the spot behind you. I really wish they had a version that had more coverage and I know there are other bumper protectors that wrap around your entire bumper. Second, you absolutely should not drive around with the bumper bully out on your bumper. Outside of looking somewhat dorky, it will flap in the wind and the straps that attach it to the trunk will actually scratch your bumper paint over time if you drive with it. I accidentally did this a couple of times and the place where the strap connects to the bumper bully actually started tearing a bit as well. It's something to keep in mind because if you want to have the bumper bully out before you park (e.g. you're trying to park in a tight spot and may hit the car behind) then you have to stop the car, get out, get the bumper bully out and then park - sort of a hassle if you do it enough times. But overall, this is a fantastic investment that keeps my car looking brand new!
