This is a beautiful book. It contains gorgeous shawl patterns as well as suggested prayers to say with each shawl. Prayer Shawl Ministry is described for those not totally familiar. It is so lovely as to be a coffee table book.

As an experienced knitter, I found this book helpful. A beginner would find it less so. Some of the patterns are pretty to look at but complex enough that the finished product might not justify the effort. It would depend on how important making a shawl is to the knitter.

I was very pleased with The Prayer Shawl Companion. The book included beautiful patterns and clearly written instructions, but, even more importantly, ideas for starting a prayer shawl ministry and wonderful stories about people lives that have been touched by either receiving or making prayer shawls. The book has inspired me to start a prayer shawl ministry at my church.

I am now working on the Lacy Linen Stole. and it is beautiful. I had wanted to try one other but found there was a miss print. I asked a friend at church who I asked if it was me or was it really wrong. There indeed was. She notified them and they sent her corrections for several of the shawls. It comes with many prayers, stories etc. and now that I have the corrections for the others I am pleased. I love the pictures and directions, but I do wish there had not been so many mistakes.

I had no idea about prayer shawls till getting this book. I was looking for shawl patterns and was surprised at all the background stories of how the shawls were designed and why and who they were made for. I have already picked out several I want to use in the future as presents for members of the family. Nice clear instructions for beginners and advanced knitters.

I've been making prayer shawls for a couple of years now and even though I'm a crocheter (whose attempts at knitting are quite sad), I was drawn to buy this book. The book offers a great variety of patterns for those who knit, but it also offers inspiration, stories, prayers and helpful hints for all who are involved in prayer shawl ministry no matter which craft they use. The photos are beautifully done and the shawls themselves are inspiring. And I'm already musing on how I might crochet a couple of the knit prayer shawls. This is a wonderful and spiritually inspiring book.

This book is for anyone in a life transition: illness, birth/adoption of a child, wedding, caregiver, bar or bat mitzvah or any other celebration of life!! This is filled with awe-inspiring photography of the shawls/stoles/tallis and lap robes. The prayers and magnificent stories are uplifting and inspirational. There is a reverence for people, life and the Creator in the selection and assembly of the materials for this book. And if you love to knit, the patterns are breath-taking. Don't be intimidated, though, all skill levels are in this masterpiece.

This is the best prayer shawl book yet. I highly recommend it. Each shawl is better than the next. Most are easy with a few that are for experienced knitters. I love it and am working on a couple and have plans for several of them and I consider myself a beginner knitter - easy stuff. The shawl on the cover is beautiful. Not all use expensive yarns, some do, but most use regular worsted weight yarns you can get at discount stores. The pictures & locations are really nice. There are wonderful stories throughout of giving & receiving shawls & the blessings each receive. Once again, I would purchase this book again & recommend it to anyone.
