About this item

  • FIRELINE: This is a microfused, braided bead thread consisting of Dyneema, a gel-spun polyethylene which is known as the strongest fiber, per diameter, ever created. It has an unbelievably high tensile strength and has been recommended in numerous how-to articles on beadworking.
  • DETAILS: Made in the USA, our Fireline is 6lb. test and comes in a crystal color. The cord measures 125 yards and .006” (.15mm) in diameter.
  • EASY FINISH: Because this is a super strong material, we recommend using sharp, precise scissors for cutting the string. However, the thread can also be burned instead of snipping. A thread burner is easier to use and more precise. This method seals the ends, which prevents frayed edges or split ends.
  • VERSATILE: Originally used by fisherman as a high-quality fishing line, this thread took off in the jewelry making world. It can be threaded on a needle and used for stringing or bead weaving. The thread does not stretch, or tangle and the strength of the cord is essential when working with heavier beads and findings.

Product Description

fireline - beadsmith 40 years in the making

When you want to create necklaces or bracelets quickly and efficiently, Fireline is up to the task. This is a microfused, braided bead thread consisting of Dyneema, a gel-spun polyethylene which is known as the strongest fiber, per diameter, ever created. It has an unbelievably high tensile strength and has been recommended in numerous how-to articles on beadworking. Originally used in the fishing industry as a strong fishing line, the thread was adopted by the jewelry making community and has been super popular ever since. Fireline comes in 5 sizes: 2lb. test strength with a .003”/.07mm diameter, 4lb. test with a .005”/.12mm diameter, 6lb. test with a .006”/.15mm diameter, 8lb. test with a .007”/.17mm diameter, 10lb. test with a .008”/.20mm diameters and 14lb. test with a .009”/.22mm diameter. The spools come in a variety of lengths and in 3 colors: clear, black and smoke grey. For stringing and weaving we suggest English beading needles. Use a #12 for 2-6lb. test and a #10 for larger diameters. To finish off your Fireline jewelry your best option is a thread burner. The Beadsmith Thread Zappers are a perfect solution. You can control exactly where the heat is applied. Tie a knot to finish your project and burn the end. A small ball will form on the melted end, preventing the knot from untying.

I do beadwork for a living and have tried a few different types of threads and this one is by far the best for helping the beads keep their shape and create quality designs.

I like these for the clearness and durability of the thread, i made several daisy chain bracelets with it and they came out perfect. Thread is light and stiff which is great for threading tiny beads and you don't need to use collapsible eye needles because of the threads strength. Great product will buy again.

I really like Fireline instead of other filament beading thread. It is more durable, easy to manage on the spool, and is a decent price. I like the reel clip that helps secure the thread on the reel. And not all of the other brands have the small slit in the outer edge of the reel to slip the thread in to give that extra security to keep it from coming unwound from the spool. For me, this is the best braided thread.

This is what I believe is best to use when beading. Native American beading to be specific! No need to wax the thread as it is already. Zero fraying. Cost is about average compared to stores. Only stuff I’ll be using here on out moving forward!

I buy this product often for beadweaving projects and it's always been my go to. I've tried some of the other threads but this is easiest to work with and most durable.

To me, this is the best line for bead weaving and jewelry making. It does not fray and is very easy to work with. The crystal is basically invisible when you use it and a weave.

I’ve been beading for several years but this is my first time with FireLine. (I have always used Wildfire) This is quite different, which was expected with it also being sold as fishing line. I think I’m going to really like it. I’ve always stayed away from fishing line; I can’t stand that stuff! But this is very different. It doesn’t tangle like regular fishing line and holds its shape when you curve or bend it. It has a smooth feel and is quite strong. It is just stiff enough to pick up a few small beads without a needle. The color says smoke, but if you look at my pics, compared to white beads it looks black to me. I ordered a 50 yard roll of 0.006 but received a 55 yard roll of 0.008. I’m not too concerned about the size though. Again looking at my pics, you can see that a 2 mm bead will easily take multiple passes. All in all I think it will be an awesome thread to work with, not as a replacement to Wildfire, but as another choice in my bead toolbox. This may seem trivial to some, but I dropped one star because to secure the spool you only get a sticker instead of the plastic clip like Wildfire has. I will have to dig around for a spare clip, because there’s no way that sticker is going to hold. If it weren’t for that small annoyance this would be a 5 star product.
