I bought this filter a long time ago and it is still going strong, it is pretty quiet and the sign makes the cartridges easy to clean. I have it in my 55 gallon tank and it works great.

I bought two of them , the items in the package are scattered, when it was installed, it made a loud sound and it worked for five minutes only and then stopped working, very bad, not worth the money, I cannot return them, I am out of the country now, not recommended at all

I run a 55gal live planted aquarium and needed a suitable filter as the one that came with my setup was garbage and burnt out in 2 months. This thing does its job in a so-so fashion, realistically all filters are the exact same thing. cheap carbon filters and some plastic shaped wiggly or spiky to do..not a whole lot actually. this thing is only silent when my tank is filled completely to the top. it does NOT have any valve or knob to adjust the suction or the waterfall power which means people have come up with creative ways to silence this filters noise output. As I write this review my tank is down barely 2" which is about where it gets when I add more water and the filter is so loud with water splashing that my pc desktop microphone picks up the sound of the water lol. So if you're looking for a /quiet/ filter in a home office, think again. I've heard some people chop up brillo pads and stuff them in the waterfall to make it quieter but I haven't tried that nonsense out yet. frankly, a product should work as labelled without requiring modifications by users.

El filtro llego a tiempo y bien empaquetado, el ruido que hace es minimo, en mi caso solo alcanzo a escuchar la cascada de agua que cae del filtro, el filtro pasado tambien era tetra, puede ser que me acostumbre al ruido, pero no es nada molesto. Es muy facil de armar y viene con instructivo por si las dudas, aparte trae un tubo expansor para alargar el filtro dependiendo de la profundidad del tanque. Mi pez y yo estamos encantados con el !

I have a hexagonal tank that is tall and thin, meaning filters for rectangular tanks with the same size rating can struggle to create good circulation in the bottom half of the tank. I sized up to the EX 20 to get a higher flow rate. This unit does a great job with both mechanical and biological filtering and my entire tank is turning over much better now. Also, it does not create too much current for my tiny Oranda goldfish, which can be a problem with more powerful filters since they tend to be poor swimmers. My only drawback is that this thing can be LOUD, and I mean LOUD, if it isn't situated exactly so on the back of your tank. There is a small rubber bump on the bottom of the housing that helps balance the back of the unit against the rear glass, but it also creates a vibration point. I ended up sticking a tiny piece of craft felt between the bump and the glass to help dampen the noise, and so far so good. I also put a narrow strip of felt near the top edge of my tank since there is a lip that sometimes vibrated against the housing. Overall, quality seems good/ sturdy construction and it was very easy to set up and clean.UPDATE 1/15/2018:Filter has become unbearably loud, even with my DIY sound dampers. The filter itself is now making a loud rumbling noise that I can't fix. I have tried disassembling and cleaning all of the moving components several times and adjusting how it sits on the tank, but it doesn't help at all. Something is wrong with the powerhead itself and it has become so loud that it interferes with watching TV in the living room and I can hear it when I'm trying to sleep. I've taken it apart and there is nothing visually wrong with the unit, and I use large gravel substrate that could not be sucked into the filter to damage it. I'm outside the return window for amazon, but I did register for the Tetra warranty and I will be returning this thing ASAP. Extremely disappointed that it deteriorated so quickly.

I love this filter. It's quiet and powerful. Although the first one crapped out on me after 2 weeks, I was sure it was a fluke and because Amazon is awesome with their refunds, I was able to order another one immediately and they had it to me within days! So far, it is running just as quietly and just as powerfully as the first one did. It's handy and easy to upkeep (changing the filter, etc.) I love it ..........and I swear my water is even cleaner.
