When I came across this tether ball set I immediately ordered as it reminds me of my childhood playing tether ball during recess daily. I wanted my kids to experience one of the best childhood pastimes. The has been a difficult game to put together and we had some complications trying to complete the set up. It is very difficult to get the rope in the ball as there is little room to get it through. Assembling the poles and getting them into the ground was easy. The pole attaches to the base with nuts and bolts. The included mallet to stake the base into the ground could be better so we did not use it and instead used one we already had on hand. The tethers sits really close to the ground which is great. Our ground is really hard and once we got it in it feels sturdy and secure. The pole wobbles a bit while playing and with teen boys I am worried about it staying put. So far it has not come loose but I don't think the pole will last long and I am looking into a permanent option for stability. Overall, it is a good kit The ball is hard, the rope is durable, and it is still as fun as I remember. This is better suited for young kids and not young men.

One other reviewer pointed out the difficulty in getting the rope under the little bar built into the tetherball. Mine is like that too. But the rope is pliable enough that you can squeeze it through with a flathead screwdriver. I didn't have to dig any of the plastic off the ball, I just squished the rope under the metal piece. It wasn't difficult.Installing the pole was way easier than I expected. The base for the pole is attached to the ground with three long stakes. These stakes are plenty long and I have no worry of the base lifting up while playing. My ground is hard though, so softer ground might be different. The kit comes with a plastic hammer, which is almost useless. I suppose it's better than nothing, but it's so light, that it would have taken an hour to get the stakes in. I went and grabbed a mallet from my garage. And if I didn't have access to a proper hammer, I'd go look for a big rock. But once the base is in, it's easy to attach the poles. The poles attach with nuts and bolts. I think they should have come with a better securing bolt because it's going to be easy to lose the nuts. That's probably why they included two extras in the box. There are also three tethers to secure the base even further. These sit much closer to the ground then they appear in the product photos, which is a relief. I was worried they would be tripping hazards. They still are, but it's nowhere as bad as it seems in the product pics. The pole is quite wobbly while playing - enough so that my daughter was worried about it flying off, but I was hitting the ball pretty good and the pole was in there good. It's wobbly, probably just because it's attached to grass and dirt instead of concrete, but it feels strong to me.I also would have liked if there was a hole in the pole for a bolt to enter, rather than the bolt pinching down the pole. That would have made it feel more secure in the base.I am really impressed with this kit. It's extremely easy to set up, you get everything you need, and you even get a carrying bag. I would have zero hesitation of taking this with me to a park or friends BBQ.

I got this to use at a client's house who has autism but loves to play with balls. I was heavily concerned when it was delivered and I picked it up and the whole thing could not have weighed 5 lb. So I knew when I set it up it wouldn't be very sturdy. I was correct. My client played with me for a little bit but as you hit the ball harder, it has a tendency to bend the pole. It hasn't broken yet but I can't see it lasted very long. For the price that this is sold for I would have expected it to be much sturdier. As far stability, it seems pretty stable. I just can't see it lasting without snapping the bar at some point.

I really like how compact and easy to travel with this it is. Since we sandy soil at our house, we can't use it at home. It is fun to take to the park and set up, always get some extra kids coming over to play. Great fun for my 3 year old. It is a bit wobbly, and when using the extra tie downs it does create a tripping hazard for the younger less spatially aware children. Overall a great fun set that you can take pretty much anywhere with ease.

Brought back childhood memories. Good for temporary fun but a little unsterdy.
