Ladder did not last for 10 uses. Stuck in an open position never cheap out on such an important safety item.

Since I have ridden flimsy ladders back down to the ground on a few occasions. I now spend a little more on products that don't look to cause my demise or injury. I like the way this ladder extends from the top. You then have more weight on the bottom..if you don't need the entire length. Even the upper rungs are sturdy enough to instill confidence in the ladder. Some nice touches are the soft covers on the corners of the top rung and the feet move to accommodate correct approach angles for usage. The color change on the windows on the rungs, to indicate the locked position is easy to use. If there was any addition to be made...it would be to offer a set of clamp-on spike legs for soft soil.

This is the second telesteps ladder I've bought. The first ladder lasted 8 years before it got hung up and stayed extended. This may be fixed by lubricating it. I did use it in the rain and noticed it not sliding as easy. It could be a failure on my part. Do not use them in the rain or where there is a lot of debris. I can't complain. I use the ladder multiple times a day, every day. The ladder is light enough to pull up a story to access a second story. I fully expect this ladder to perform the same. I love that it's compact and lightweight. Total collapse with one switch is a huge deal to me. All the other telescoping ladders have a release on every rung. That would suck. I have a garage full of ladders and pull my telesteps out of my trunk because I'd rather use it than any other ladder I've owned or used.

I've used the Telesteps 1600e's for the past 4 years now, and they are definitely consumer quality and are probably only meant for your average home owner. I say this because I've gone through 3 of them in 4 years...but I use them almost daily as a roofing inspector. I don't usually carry anything up the ladder besides myself and a tool belt so no more than 220 lbs.I decided I'd spend the extra $$ and get the pro version this time. So far I'm impressed, it operates the same as the 1600 but is much more robust. The only down side is that its about twice the weight, so not as easy to carry around, but time will tell how the 1800 will hold up compared to the 1600. I anticipate it will give at least twice the service time as the 1600's based off of its better construction and heavier weight (I'm hoping heavier = heavier duty components therefor longer lasting).I'd recommend someone using this type of ladder daily to go with the 1800 pro instead of trying to save money going with the lighter version because it should give you more service time in the long run.For your average home owner, go with the 1600...still a very useful ladder, but not meant for daily use.

Telesteps has changed something in their manufacturing process over the years. In the good old days, they had 2 pins that you simultaneously pull below the 2nd rung to collapse the ladder. These days they have 2 'buttons' that you push toward each other to collapse it. I thought that that was the only thing they had changed, but apparently, they've changed other things as well - because while my 1st telesteps lasted 9 years, my last 5 (all 1800 EP's) have lasted 9 months. I use the ladder 15-20 times a week for work inspections. I weigh 160 lbs (so that's not the issue). I've been using their ladders for years (mostly the first one that I bought in the early 2000s - which was a 12') When that one finally died after almost a decade, I decided to 'upgrade' to the 1800 EP (14.5'), which I was fairly certain would last me another 10 yrs - but it was closer to 10 days. Within 2 months of regular use, each has failed in the same way - one of the posts between 2 rungs comes loose and falls permanently into the post below it. Game over .. unfixable. Incredibly frustrating. What have they changed so that they are now manufacturing a defective product? And why did they change it? Because they thought they were making a better product ... or because they were cutting corners to save $$? I don't know .. but I need them to FIX what they've done .. NOW! There is no better telescoping ladder on the market. All others that I've seen and tested weigh more and force you to collapse each rung one at a time --> pain in the ass ... as opposed to the Telesteps, which collapses in 2 seconds .. beautiful. Bottom line is that telesteps used to make the greatest telescoping ladders. They were tanks that couldn't be broken. Now they break when the wind blows ... and THAT blows. I want my old, durable, Telesteps back. I miss the good old days.

I am a small woman, where as my husband is 6'7" and weighs close to 300 pounds. We just purchased a townhouse that has high ceilings, and storage shelves that are too high to reach with a foot stool. We looked at the Little Giant ladders, and others like them, but I would not have been able to get them up the stairs, or even carry them anywhere without hurting myself. We finally decided to order this ladder from Amazon after researching it online. When it arrived, I was pleased to find that I could carry it, in it's case and without. It extends and closes with ease and is sturdy enough for my husband to climb without fear of it collapsing. I've had a couple contractors use it to get up on our roof, and they have been impressed enough to order one for themselves. I want to give kudos to Amazon for the customer service they provide, quality products they carry, and most of all, the free shipping option. Shipping, especially for a heavy product like this, and that we live in Alaska, adds so much to the cost of things, it makes ordering cost prohibitive. I order from Amazon as often as I can because of that and all the other wonderful qualities of the company. THANK YOU Amazon.com!!!
