I've been playing guitar for 20 years, and my Taylor GS Mini Mahogany is simply fantastic. This is my second time buying this guitar because I love it so much. The sound quality is rich and full, with a surprising depth for its size. The mahogany gives it a warm tone that's perfect for various styles of music. The build quality is top-notch, and the playability is outstanding. It's comfortable to hold, and the action is smooth and easy. Whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner, the Taylor GS Mini Mahogany is a superb choice. I can't recommend it enough!

Firstly, I bought the 2021 Koa LTD version with a spruce top. Played the koa and mahogany tops and liked the spruce the best, but that might be because the guitar was 3 years old and the wood had opened up more. I was a bit underwhelmed playing a mahogany fresh out of the box. I'm coming from 30 years playing a Guild Mini Jumbo with spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides, which this guitar can't touch for projection and low end depth. But I wanted something a little easier to play on a daily basis. The GS Mini is a good, unfussy, well made guitar. Great for a beginner or anyone with smaller hands, the shorter scale neck puts the frets a hair closer together. Neck joins the body at the 14th fret, which is nice, many smaller guitars join at the 12th, putting some higher frets out of reach. The 1-11/16" wide neck helps too, though that's not unique to this guitar. I've always preferred the hourglass concert shape over a dreadnought too, more comfortable when seated. And I believe the shorter scale neck puts the strings at lower tension, which adds to playability. It's also feather-light.The guitar has surprising projection and sustain for a compact model. Interesting overtones. It's not perfect, the bass end is a bit tinny for my tastes (I flatpick). After a trial period, I had it set up swapping the factory .013 gauge strings for lighter .011s (.012s might have been adequate), had the frets buffed and it plays like butter. Fun. I don't expect to travel with it but see how it would work for that. I can imagine standing it in a corner of the room and just grabbing it anytime.I have to say Taylor is a little dodgy in how it represents the back & side wood. Not that they hide the fact the GS Mini "box" is always a layered laminate. But when the description says the back/sides are koa, rosewood, or mahogany, that's just a thin external veneer over a poplar core. It's questionable how much a paper thin veneer of choice tonewood contributes to the sound of the guitar, it's more of a cosmetic factor. The tops are hardwood and are going to determine the tone of the instrument. Many prefer the mahagony. Koa can be visually striking, but will cost more. I'm pleased with mine.

I am pretty much a beginner. The sound from this guitar is amazing . And no regrets with Mahogony. The size is perfect. I wish I had bought this instead of the dreadnaught that I have - although I do love it, the Taylor is perfect to hold and play. I will say that this guitar will force me to be a better player. The soundboard is lively and magical but it if you fingerpick, some notes will excite strings that are not invited. So I need to accelerate my skills to mute strings. But wow - I love this Taylor

From a lifelong musician. Buy this.I played the new one I bought next to my Larrivee. While there is really no comparison on playability, the Larrivee being far superior, there is a favorable comparison on tone. And even appearance. The Taylor lacked some of the bass qualities of the 4 x more expensive guitar, but the tone is quite sweet right out of the box, and will only improve over time.I expect the playability could be improved with a little fret filing, which is best left to a professional. Not an expensive trip though. This is for my grandson, who is 7 years old. It is larger than the Baby Taylor, but I played a Baby and the tone just wasn't there. I feel like he can play it now, but will surely grow into it well. So, if you are buying for a kid, but don't want to give a "toy", which is exactly what all the $200 new offerings are, step up and give a real instrument. I played the Yamaha, Fender, Gretcsh, Martin offerings @ $200 or less. All toys, not musical instruments. And If you are buying for yourself, just be aware it is kind of small, but really quite good.

This smaller guitar delivers a big sound! The gig bag is really nice too. Customer service was quick to answer a question. Glad I made this purchase.
