This is a very good product and value for money but the reading angle of the probe when inserted is the a significant and inconvenient design weakness.

Does the job really well, easy to use and a bonus that it has both a probe and infrared sensor, have been using for six months now with no issue. Great product.

This is the best I've ever used - stop looking cuz this has it all.And sadly (!!!) I've bought tons (here on Amazon) that I've had to throw out!! Seriously it sucks but not anymore.I've been cooking for over 4 decades and have dealt with many poor performing, poorly designed thermometers (old metal with glass top meat therm, several manual candy therms, and one electric therm). The meat therm is from decades ago and is there for nostalgia :-) the candy therms.. manual and elect were bought here on Amz recently. The manual therms are so-so and a pain to use with chocolate and make things worse. They hard to get an accurate temp because the clips that keep them attached to a double-boiler (for example) get in the way and cause chocolate to cool and harden around the bulb. BAD! So the temp is the chocolate cooled on the bulb and not what's melting (or not) in the cooking pan. Even stirring isn't enough. You have to rub off the bulb and this is beyond a pain. The other electric therm was an el-cheapo that was a metal probe only based unit that was inaccurate. This has both infrared checking and handy metal probe for insertion. You can use both and confirm. Both are very good and very close. The infrared detector is a LIFESAVER with chocolate in a double boiler!! Aim the thing for the surface of the melted chocolate and click the button and you can quickly aim the IR and the temp (C or F) is taken and held for a few seconds for you to read close up (bad eyes here). This is so awesome.. no chocolate wasted, accurate and quick as well.I've confirmed the probe too and they are really close. The nice thing about the probe is that it's slim and little food product is wasted so it's just an easy wipe down to clean (when you want to confirm with probe).I use the IR on everything now. Cool to see the temp of my bread as it's rising. I can confirm the correct temp for the yeast to grow. No disturbing the raising dough.. just aim, click and voila.

Excelente en su funcionamiento. Sólo me hubiera gustado que el estuche para cargar en el cinturón fuera de un material más resistente.

After years of using regular digital thermometers it has been a real treat switching to a high quality instant read. I have used it for liquid temp, meats, breads, anything you can imagine, multiple times a day and it has never failed to give me an accurate reading within a few seconds. The quality and consistency of my cooking has increased greatly since I started using this thermometer.Other things I like about it:Easy to cleanAuto-OffNice caseAbsolutely instant IR readingsThe display is very clear and easy to read. I have seen in other (1 star!) reviews that people are complaining that the display is not horizontal and that they are injuring themselves or having to contort themselves in order to read the temp. I personally have never had an issue reading the temp while the display was sideways. The idea that you HAVE to have your head perfectly in line with what the device in order to read 3 large numbers (to the point of injuring yourself to do so) is really kind of silly.I've used a ThermaPen before, and the temp does come faster than the Taylor, but in my experience it's about 1-2 seconds faster and I'd rather have the IR capability of this unit. All in all, a great purchase and something I highly recommend to someone who takes their cooking seriously.

For years I have used the instant read analog thermometers---I always had one clipped to my pocket when i cooked. I was reluctant to try the digital ones because I thought that my analog was "close" enough. That may still be true, but the difference with the digital thermometers is that you get pretty much an instant read....that is a welcome time saver when you are making fast cook dishes and things are happening very quickly. I use it for meats, poultry, fish and cooked casseroles. I also use it to measure the temperature of water, sauces, or other liquids (hot or cold). I can also measure the temperatures of various parts of the cooked dish to identify undercooked portions. This one has a nice feature of the infra-red reading, which i use to gauge the latent heat of prepared foods when standing or reheated. Both your cold and hot dishes can be read with this device. You can now serve dishes at the proper and safe temperatures. It also can help with ensuring that wines are served at their proper temperatures by pointing the infrared light at the bottle. It has a red and green light to remind you of the safe temperatures to avoid the unsafe 40-140 zone.It works well and is always on my belt when i am cooking. No more guessing or waiting for the analog thermometer to come up to temp.
