Tools, pins, paper, and foam are all fine for the purposes. The glass case is not really good for mounting a pinned insect, as there is nothing to mount to. I suppose one could cut the foam and place it inside, but then you cannot reuse the foam to pin future insects. But this has the essentials to pin bugs for beginners.

The tweezers the give you damage to bugs and they dont include the flat forceps. I'm going to buy some rubber tipped "soft forcep" instead for $20, which includes the flat ones. The foam pieces they give you are uneven so I had to cut them both in half.Be sure to but the velum paper underneath delicate wings because this type of foam is very "absorbent" and when you need to make adjustments the wings will stick to the foam.Better to buy these items separately if you're taking this hobby seriously.

For a beginner kit, this isn’t bad. My chief complaint is my pinning boards came damaged and bent. However, I’ve seen online people are using Styrofoam. The scissors are sharp, so definitely be careful with those and then the tweezers have very fine points on them.

the tweaser, the end arrive snapped off, so the points are at two different lengths): and the scissors were unusable.however the board, the pins and the paper are good. I think its good for beginners, id give 5 stars if you.just want to practice or for hobby, but for serious pinning I'd consider investing in a better product. the board is uneven in the sense that one is a tad but higher then the other so my butterflies come out uneven.but I do like how it's a kit and how everything came together. again pretty good kit for non serious pinning.

I really like this kit. As a beginner to this hobby, it was incredibly easy to use and came with everything I could possibly need to do it.My only complaints:1. The foam pieces appear to be connected together in the photo, but they are not. I do like that it gives the option to make the size adjustable, but when you are just starting out, sometimes it's a little much to try to figure out. I broke several butterflies trying to figure it out and get the width just right.2. I would really like several size options for the sheets. Yes, I could cut them to the size I want, but truthfully my life is not put together enough for me to think ahead of things like that when I need to start pinning insects. My own problem, but it would make things way more convenient.Other than that, I am really glad I bought this product and highly recommend it.
