I am actually really impressed that a $37 preamp can sound this good. My TT is a Sota Star Sapphire with an ET2 air bearing tonearm and a Shelter 501 MC cart. My Audio Research phono preamp doesn't have enough gain and requires pulling it out of the stereo cabinet (no small feat) taking the cover off and juggling load resistor values and soldering them in place, in order to change the gain. I just didn't feel like all that at the moment and a search on amazon turned up this little jewel. Saved me a lot of down time and it actually sounds very good, quiet, no noise, and the bass and treble controls are a nice plus. Now I can deal with the ARC preamp when I feel like it. I'll probably buy another for my other TT's.

Initially this little unit was awesome. Sound was great for the price and I could not have been happier. Today I turned the unit on and noticed a very loud hum. I disconnected everything from the unit except the headphone and the power supply and the loud hum was there in every single socket in the house. Others have mentioned this hum problem but for them it was minor or only when in the MC selection. I suspect it just a bad transformer unit that is going with the unit. Its such a shame but I had to send it back and buy something much more expensive.

I recently had my original Pre amp die on me. For a while I was using a lower quality receiver and I wanted to use my good one again because I spent way too much money on it. I looked for a solution and found this. I’m very pleased with this and recommend it to people looking for a quick fix. I’m also happy to finally be able to use headphones and not blast my mother out. :)

I recently bought this preamp for my Yamaha PF-800 turntable that has a moving coil cartridge (which I rescued from a town dump's swap shed) and was extremely excited to have a preamp that can play the mc cartridge. Setup was easy, plugged it into my receiver and phono no problem, but in the MC setting I did notice a hum that I could not get rid of. Maybe the ground isn't working so well, I don't know. However, it's less noticeable once the music starts playing and when I'm shaking the house with tunes I haven't played loudly enough in years. It definitely does get the signal up there for the receiver, and at a decent level, too. Just the hum is my only complaint. If you're looking for a cheap phono stage, this one is a good value for the money, but don't expect perfection at this price point.

I wanted to use one of my turntables exclusively with headphones. I tried this with my rega rp3 and audio technica atlp120. I also tried it with several pairs of headphones including some Grado SR225s. The headphone output lacks bass and had a lot of distortion when turned up to a reasonable listening volume. I returned to amazon, for my purpose it was useless.

This preamp for the price works great. Been dragging around my vinyl all theses years and have not listened to them in 25 years. Sold my turntable back when CDs came out. Now that vinyl has made a huge comeback I bought a vintage Technics turntable a few weeks ago and with my new Pioneer receiver that does not have a phone input on it. Also unsure on what kind of cartridge I had MM or MC the preamp works with both. Unlike some other preamps also has and on/off button came with one set of audio cables and power adapter. For the price you can not go wrong.
