  • Encourages Hens to Lay Eggs in Nesting Box --- When a broody hen sees other eggs, she identifies that area as an ideal place to lay her own eggs. Place these SunGrow wooden chicken eggs inside the nesting box to encourage hens to lay eggs in a clear, cozy area instead of on the ground or chicken coop floor.
  • Discourages Bad Habits Like Pecking --- Occasionally chickens may have bad habits such as eating and pecking at eggs in the nest. Before they have a chance to peck at real eggs, place wooden eggs in the nest box. Chickens will peck at the wooden and receive no reward which in turn discourages them from pecking at the actual chicken eggs.
  • Use to Test Broodiness in Hens --- If you are unsure whether your hens are broody or not, the 2 packs of SunGrow Wooden Nest Eggs are an excellent way to find out. Place a couple of the realistic looking eggs in the nesting box and wait to see if your hen sets on them. When she does start setting for 3 days or more, it’s time to replace fake eggs with fertile eggs to be hatched.
  • Original Colored --- Approximately 2.75” (7cm) in size, the wooden eggs from SunGrow are designed to closely replicate actual chicken eggs. Real chicken eggs vary in color; this particular pair of wooden nest eggs are a light brown color with a hint of red for authenticity.
  • Makes Beautiful DIY Home Decor --- Along with being an effective and practical addition to your chicken coop, the durable wooden chicken eggs look beautiful when used in do it yourself home decor. The raw appearance of these sturdy eggs is perfect for festivals like easter or traditional interior designs, log cabins, farmhouses, and country-themed homes.

Product Description

Are the wooden nest eggs fine to be kept in my pet’s enclosure?

Made with durable wooden, the artificial nest eggs are good for you and your chickens. They are actually great in discouraging your chicken from pecking and eating real eggs. The hard wooden is tough enough to resist their beaks eventually making them lose any interest in eggs, fake or real. The SunGrow Wooden Chicken Eggs are a slight reddish-brown in color, approximately 2.75” (7cm) in size and come in a secure plastic pack of two.

Why should I add these eggs to my chicken coop?

Placing several wooden nest eggs in your chicken hutch has many benefits to you and your chickens. They are often used to test for broodiness in hens by watching to see if hens are sitting on the eggs indicating that they are ready to set on fertile eggs. Wooden chicken eggs can also be used to break bad habits such as laying eggs in the middle of the coop floor instead of the nesting box.

Are there any other interesting uses for these eggs?

There are many fun and useful purposes for the Wooden eggs besides adding them to a chicken coop. The charming, real look and feel make them an excellent choice for so many arts, crafts and do-it-yourself home decor. Combine the eggs with pretty branches around a candle to create a unique centerpiece for a country-themed party or interior design. Use special wooden paint markers to decorate the eggs and set them around the house for colorful Easter decorations.

So when I ordered these eggs I thought they were gonna be around the size of a pigeon size egg.I have bantam and regular sized hens so I hoping to trick them, sadly will not be happening.

Suite aux déboires de la Poste qui avait livré à la mauvaise adresse, colis bien reçu. Bon produit fait le travail, mes poules commencent à pondre au bon endroit, sauf une qui fait de la résistance. Je recommande ce produit.

This product really looks like an egg and the chickens love it. I had several chickens sit on them while in the chicken nest.

These eggs have a low sheen medium brown paint color. The shape, looks, and feels real. Hard to tell the difference as they look exactly like the eggs laid by my Black Australorps and Heritage Rhode Island Reds.My 20 week old chickens are at the age to begin laying. When I received these fake eggs, I built nests in the nesting boxes and laid one in the middle of each. These nests were perfect. In 2 days, I found the nesting material scattered in their coop and one fake egg covered in pooh. I remade their nests with fresh nesting material from Carolina Coops and again sat 1 fake egg in each. The next day part of the nesting material was in the coop again. This time I was able to retrieve the clump and put it back into the nesting box. After a week, they left their nests alone. Then one day, I finally found a real chicken egg resting next to the fake egg. (Sorry no pixs as I couldn't wait to have for breakfast). These eggs are perfect. They don't break, they look real, and the chickens can't destroy them. I cannot say whether or not these fake eggs are washable. I am waiting for the poop covered egg to fully dry (damp weather) to see if I can brush off the pooh before attempting to wash off. If paint comes off, will update.

Our chickens weren’t laying in the nesting boxes so we put these in there and now they’re laying in the nesting boxes

This worked wonders and the hens are finally laying in the boxes. It's hard to actually tell the difference, so I'd suggest maybe a mark on one end. They are more shiny though.

They are too big and too shiny to fool the chickens. My chickens refused their nesting box to get away from them. Eggs all over the coop floor. Maybe they do something for some other purpose.

The only reason I give 4 stars is because both eggs came with some paint chipped off. If it wasn't for that, they do look like real eggs and serve their purpose.
