Wanted an alternative to one of the many available huts you find on the market for parrots. Those hang inside the cage and don't survive as long as you like due to the fact that parrots will likely shred anything hanging that is soft enough. Add in the fact that during said shedding, they could accidentally get themselves caught up in threads and possibly lose a limb or worse (we've all heard the horror stories), just didn't want another hut. Still wanted something soft and warm for his feet, as during the winter months, it is still cooler in the house than in the summer. This looked to be a promising alternative.Obviously, as with anything new... Mikko was apprehensive with it early on. I had mounted it high up on the inside left of the cage, creating a nice sheltered area for him thanks to the solid inside top of the cage. To help him get used to it, whenever I placed him in the cage, I'd place him on the hammock. After a few days, when it came time for bed, he was eagerly climbing up onto it on his own, and has become his favorite spot to sleep! He switches from resting in the middle of the hammock or on one of the covered mounted pegs on either end. He clearly loves the warmth offered all around vs a standard wood perch. This clearly won't last forever, but will purchase again when the time comes.

Birds like to chew and rip things to shreds and with this item the strings are choking hazard. Do not recommend for birds

This is a nice basic product. Just be sure you know it's a lightweight hammock designed for a small critter and needs to be affixed to a cage. We love it, but can totally see that if you don't have the proper set up to use it it might be awkward.
