  • Replace The Traditional Hob, Canister Filters --- Gone are the days when you got to change the cartridges and filter media almost every week. The handy filter by SunGrow will do the same job economically and quickly.
  • Specially Designed For Betta, Fry & Other Small Aquatic Pets --- Betta, fry and other small fish will NEVER get stuck up into the filter. These fish, especially Betta, generally don't like vigorous currents, they prefer calm and steady water. This filter is designed to have slow current to easily let betta, goldfish, discus, dwarf cichlids, guppies, and krill fish continue breeding and spawning comfortably.
  • Provide Supplemental Food For Fry --- The minor bubbles that are created by this sponge filter creates a nominal current, adding in bubbling water. This will encourage them to continue breeding and spawning comfortably. Also, the sponge filter makes a home for fish food supplementing their daily dose of diet or food intake.
  • Perfect For Up To 10.5 Gallon Tank When Used Singly --- It only requires an air pump and airline tubing (sold separately) to work. These create numerous minute bubbles for increased oxygen flow. Simply connect an air pump to the top-center of the filter, then place it in your tank. Please note, the base of this noiseless filter is not weighted, so you may need to weigh it down. It is suitable for tanks up to size 10.5 gallons.
  • Easy To Wash & Reuse --- This low-cost sponge filter can be used multiple times. Instead of tap water, use water from the tank to scrub it, during a water change. Simply rinse and squeeze a few times, until you see the water run clear from the sponge.

What Size tank can I use this cotton sponge filter for?

This cotton sponge filter will work best in tanks up to 10.5 gallons when used singly. If you own a larger tank, you can purchase two or more of these sponge filters and place them on different sides of the tank. Considering their small size, you can easily hide these filters behind plants and other underwater decor.

Why should I use an air pump with this filter and not a water pump?

We recommend the air pump method as it is much easier for beginner aquarium keepers to set up. You buy this, hook it up to an airline tubing and an air pump...and go. The air pump is noiseless and won't disturb your fish. It can be used in a "hospital tank", breeding or rearing tank, or as a tank for fish who prefer a slower current flow such as Betta or Discus.

Can I use this sponge filter in conjunction with a HOB (Hang on the back) filter?

Yes. Even if you already have another filter in your tank, you can use the sponge filter at the same time to upkeep your tropical fish tank. Your best results will be achieved by placing the sponge filter on one side and the hang-on power filter, or any other filter, on the opposite side.

Can I place the filter straight into my aquarium?

It is recommended to clean the tank and do the regular weekly water change before installing this filter.

Recommendation:

Replace this cotton every 5 to 6 months to ensure proper filtration.

Steps to Use:

  • 1. First of all, insert the plastic tube in the airline tubing (sold separately).
  • 2. Insert one end of the airline tubing into the sponge filter.
  • 3. Insert the other end of the airline tubing to the air pump. Now your device is ready to work.

Great for our little 20l tank in our classroom keeps our one little fish very happy and clean. I added an air pump to give it alittle extra kick but it does good job on its own. Would definitely work great for the little single beta tanks

This filter is great! I was running a big 3 filter before, but I found my tank getting algae blooms often. Switched to this, and I have had no issues at all. Betta likes it better, too.Highly recommend for beta tanks.

Io non so come lavorate... Sotto zero stelle

Very nice small sponge filter for a 10 gallon aquarium. Very easy install and good value. It was easy to modify by adding an air stone. An air stone makes the bubbles small which makes for a quieter filter. The downside is less surface agitation and oxygen. But there are options to overcome that problem.

This item works very well, it’s keeping my tank clear of unnecessary debris. I haven’t had to clean it yet, but I don’t think I’ll have problem and it seems it won’t be necessary to replace often. I also have a 70 gallon tank that I am considering using the larger sponge filters for.

This is my second purchase of this sponge filter for another aquarium upgrade. Couldn't be happier with the performance and ease of cleaning. I don't use a bubbler, instead I've attached the clear plastic pipe to a powerhead inlet which provides much better circulation. My tank remains clean and with minimal nitrate levels. I'm not entirely sure how an air pump would work out, as there is no airstone to provide smaller bubbles. Powerhead setup works well, however.

Really great overall!! Looked up tutorial on how to set it up and it was very easy.Pros: cleaned the water in my 2 gallon tank in about 7 minutes!! It's very simple and not hard to figure out at all. I'm very happy!Cons: it didn't come with a water pump which I wasn't expecting, but I already had one from another filter. Also, the sounds of the bubbles coming to the top and popping is noisier than expected, but my pump allows me to control the amount of air, so it didn't bother me. It also bothers the top of the water a lot which stressed out my beta, but I turned the pressure enough to where he was happy.Unusual: it felt quite heavy in my hands, probably the weight of two average phones, but it wouldn't stay underwater!! I fiddled around with it in the water enough when I got it under a large amount of rocks.Overall a great product and great purchase!! Wasn't exactly what I expected and struggled a little, but great!!
