Pos: Rips well into the dirt. Fairly easy to angle for forward movement, or going deeper in the same place. Considering you're tearing up the earth and plowing through it, it's actually really easy to move. As the blades are spinning forward it wants to move forward on its own, so surprisingly you're holding back to plow forward. It took me about an hour to fully till my backyard, which was about 200 sq. ft. That includes going a couple feet down and having to stop every few feet to grab a big brick or other random giant metal/stone object that had made its way into the ground over the years. In that regard I really like this because it helped me find all of those items and pull them out to just have a nice bed of soil.Neg: Being connected to an outlet does limit it, and it becomes a little annoying on the return plows where you have to work to make sure the power cord isn't in the way. Also you need a higher power rated extension cord (that's for outdoors), which adds a bit to the cost. While it does most of the work for you, it's still work. It takes some muscle to control it and move it, etc.

Love this little guy. Using it to rip sod for planting new grass. Tons of torque, the only thing that stopped it was a six inch rock getting caught in the blades. Small size and weight makes it easy to handle and maneuver. Depth adjustment simple and easy to use. Bottom line: for price paid a well designed and powerful tool. Exceeds my expectations.

I liked everything about this machine. I have a lot of raised beds that a standard sized tiller does not work in my other gardens are full of perennial plants. I used this to till in some mulch around the plants I was pleasantly surprised on how easy it was to use without damaging my plants. In the raised beds the machine is so light that I could pick it up and work the soil from inside the beds. On some beds I could use it from the ground by extending the handle.I would highly recommend this product.

I ordered this after reading most of the reviews on it. I bought a few Sunjoe products and I've been happy with the quality and performance of all of them so far.I like that all the packaging inside is cardboard, and easy to recycle.I plugged it in taking care to use a good heavy extension cord as it recommends, of course. This machine is a beast! It chewed through some hard ground with medium sized rocks in it that hadn't ever been tilled and was nearly impossible to put a shovel into. I had a 10x20 ft plot fully tilled to a beautiful powder consistency within about 15 minutes and right to its maximum depth about 8 in"! It hit a few tree roots, the smaller ones of which it just broke up no problem, a few of the larger ones I had to stop and unwind them from the tines but that's to be expected. The handles and height are very comfortable and make it easy to control the tiller moving forward and backward. The weight of the unit compared to some other small tillers I think really helps it dig into the ground. My ground included quite a few clay sand and small rock clumps that were hard to break up with a shovel. This guy just ate them like it was no problem at all. Impressive.I 100% recommend this unit for anyone that's got a small garden area to till and wants a machine that puts maximum effort in. You won't be disappointed!

Opening the package everything was jumbled around. I noticed that there was a supplied 500w 120v to 230v transformer in the box. This is not suitable as by my calculations this rotates it requires at least over 1600watts. A small inverter would not be powerful enough to run the rotavator. It's also a point of failure. I don't see it lasting very long. If you're from the UK / euro I would avoid buying this. We've started the return process. We're very disappointed as it was a long wait for delivery.

I am a 60 year-old disabled woman trying to maintain my flower and vegetable gardens on my own. I am no longer capable of dealing with heavy equipment. For several years I owned a gasoline powered tiller but I find it a hassle to purchase and mix gasoline and oil plus perform annual maintenance. I am finding electric powered tools to be a great solution. When this electric tiller arrived, I pulled it out of the box and assembled it in just a few short minutes. The only assembly necessary is to attach the two parts of the handle. They slide together effortlessly and are held in place with large, easy to use bolts. No tools required! You will need a good extension cord to operate this product. Most people can get away with a 50’ cord. Because my yard is very large, I needed a 100’ extension cord. I purchased a very heavy cord that was recommended to operate the tiller properly. The cord cost more than half as much as the tiller, but I will be able to use it for all of my electric tools so I considered it a good investment. Just realize that the cord does not come with the tiller and if you don’t already have one it will be an added expense. After rolling the tiller to the garden, it was a simple task to reposition the wheels to the tilling position. The machine was simple to start. I hold down a start button with my thumb and pull a trigger with my finger. The machine immediately starts up. I remove my thumb from the start switch and the tiller continues running until I release the trigger. It took only a few minutes to turn over an 8’ x 8’ section of soil in my vegetable patch and make a nice deep garden bed in which to plant tomatoes. My garden is full of stones but they didn’t pose a problem. In another area of my yard, I used the tiller to dig a section of lawn that had not previously been plowed. I did not remove the grass first. The tiller had no problem cutting through the grass and digging into the ground. This machine has a convenient handle and is lightweight enough for me to lift it if I need to. It’s easy to maneuver from place to place. When running, it is easy to control. Unlike larger rototillers I don’t feel like I am fighting with it. I am controlling the tiller. The tiller is not controlling me.The price of this tiller was very reasonable, and it won’t require annual maintenance at additional cost. It is not an “investment” tool that I’ve paid a ton of money for expecting to get 10 or 20 years of service from. If I have to toss this machine in a few years and buy another, well, the low price will allow me to do that without too much pain. This machine is not built for daily or commercial use. But for a backyard gardener who will use it a few times a year, it’s a handy tool to have. It’s a great solution for women who don’t want the hassle of dealing with heavier and more complicated “man tools.”

This tiller is great – lightweight and easy to maneuver – I'm very happy with the purchase. The first time I started it up, I was shocked at how easily it dug straight into the dirt, and how easy it was to use. And if you're worried about the cord, it never really bothered me. You're moving slow enough when you're tilling that keeping the cord out of the way is not really a challenge. It's not unlike vacuuming, only slower going. That said, if you're thinking about buying it, and you've used a gas tiller before, you need to have realistic expectations.A couple quick notes. It's absurdly easy to assemble. Contrary to a couple comments I read, I found the wheel adjustment to be very easy to use; you just pull the wheels toward you and put them in the notch you want.We have a small garden, maybe 10 x 30. I used it yesterday for the first time for two or three hours, re-tilling some leaves into the existing garden, and breaking new ground to expand our plot. Last year, I broke ground with a front tine gas tiller I borrowed from a friend, basically a larger gas version of this tiller, so here's my comparison. It was wet yesterday, and there's some clay content in our soil, and the electric bogged down two or three times. It just stopped turning, and there was a little smoke whisping off the motor, which made we nervous. But I simply stopped, cleaned the tines out, and let it spin free a little to clear the dirt, and it kept working just fine. That said, with the gas tiller, I never had this problem. Although the electric was surprisingly strong, the gas was definitely more powerful. My guess is that I'll end up having to do more passes with this tiller than with the gas. That said, a gas tiller is two to three times as expensive, and requires a lot more maintenance. For me, the trade off is worth it.As for maneuverability, this lightweight tiller won hands down. Keep in mind, weight can be helpful for the tiller to sink into and break up deep soil. But, whereas I was absolutely exhausted after using the gas tiller last year, using this tiller really isn't that much harder than mowing the grass. As long as this tiller can get the job done, I would much rather use it.There's a few reasons I gave this tiller four starts instead of five. In wet soil with clay content, the design makes it very easy for soil to collect between the tines, the top protective shield and the wheels, which ultimately leads to the tiller bogging down. I constantly had a big, clogged mass of soil and clay bunched between the protective shield and the wheel bracket. And, although I had no problems yesterday, I'd feel more confident about this tiller's life span if the wheels were more heavy duty. And, more importantly, I'd have liked it if they put heavier gauge handles on it. At times, when you're wresting with the tiller, the handle torques a bit, which makes me a little nervous about how long it will last. My guess is, I'll get several years out of this tiller, but not a couple decades, like you might from a gas tiller. That said, I don't think the makers of this tiller are misrepresenting this it in any way. It's a great, easy to use, lightweight tiller, and it will probably meet our needs for years. While it's not suited for serious, heavy duty tilling, for the average home owner who's just gonna use it a couple times a year, it's a great solution.UPDATEChanged my original review from 4 to 5 stars. I've used it twice more on our garden plot, which we expanded to about 15 x 40. Second time, used it when the ground was fairly wet, and, because we have a bit of clay in our soil, it still struggled some, but ultimately managed to get through everything just fine. The third time, I added some soil amendments when we'd had a few dry days, and it worked perfectly. Really couldn't be happier. It's lightweight, easy to use, and more than powerful enough for our needs.

As a starter, I am not one of those people who frequently comments or rates things that I buy on Amazon. We received our Sun Joe today (lovingly named Josephine), and tried it out on our raised beds. Like a lot of other reviews state, this thing is a beast! If you are looking for a smaller tiller, this is your choice! A few things I love about her:1. It's light. I can easily pick this up and set it into my raised beds, and move it between beds. It's got great handles on it to grab it with (nothing that digs into your fingers, bonus!), and isn't awkward to carry.2. For being a tiller, it's fairly quiet. Has that electric motor sound to it... think Shop Vac, but a little quieter.3. It really chews up the dirt. Our first bed, we thought would be easy. Previously an onion bed, with little 'garbage' left from last year. No issue. Finished with our last bed, which didn't work out last year, and had a summer's worth of hard grass mat and clumps of old beets. Boom. Done. Another bed had last year's big tomato stems and root balls in it, and Josephine easily tore through it.4. Although a little rough at the start (legit, this thing is powerful, like powerful), once you figure out how to use it, it's really easy to use. Watch it around the wooden borders of a raised bed (nothing major will happen, but it will bounce off the wood and surprise you), but it gets really close to the edges, meaning less weeding! It moves through soil like butter. I recommend doing a couple passes if you are looking to break down/incorporate new soil, but that won't take long!I will be using this in my in-ground bed for weeding between rows as the summer passes, but require the depth of my bigger Honda to work in some new manure and dig the clay of Northern Ontario. That said, this tiller would be great for any gardener looking for an easier option to work the ground.
