No matter how good the transmitter is, if the cable sending the signal to it is worn or damaged you will not get the results you need to make an accurate diagnosis. The STEELMAN 97202-08 Wireless ChassisEAR Lead/Clamp 4-Pack is a set of replacement cables for the STEELMAN 97202 Wireless ChassisEAR to keep its transmitters working in top form. This pack of 4 replacement clamp microphones amplify and transmit sounds to the wireless transmitters, allowing users to listen to and perform real time diagnostics during road tests to locate troubling automotive noises. Using one or all four of these microphone clamps, you can easily pinpoint the exact location of noises that signal damaging wear and possible part failure connected to issues that cannot be duplicated in the garage repair stall and heard with a standard mechanic's stethoscope. Each of the clamps is made from durable steel with a 2-foot (24-inch) insulated wire lead cable that gives you just enough reach to securely mount the transmitter to a solid location and run the clamp to even the most difficult vehicle locations. Sensors easily clamp onto problem areas of cars and trucks including springs, torque rods, shocks, body mounts, brakes, dash assemblies, door hinges, drive trains, rear or front axles, transmissions, transfer cases, suspensions, sway bars, tie rod ends, struts, axle hubs, ring and pinion bearings, mufflers, catalytic converters, O2 sensors, A/T cases, differentials and CV joints, fuel injectors, gears, oil pumps or even un-torqued bolts.
STEELMAN is an industry leader in automotive and industrial specialty tools and equipment, manufacturing the highest quality, unique, and innovative tools and products, designed to meet the specific needs of mechanics, contractors, and other working professionals.

I use with Lapscope to point out where the issue are coming in from.Yes, I had to make extension cables to attach to my scope and setting at 1v /dc for view!

I had bought just the transmitters for connecting to a Pico scope and a handheld recorder with RCA cables, BNC to RCA adapters and RCA to mono 3.5mm adapter. Got a waveform with the Pico scope and a sound recording with the recorder. Easy to figure out which wheel bearing was bad.

I used these inexpensive and ingenious piezo mike clamps along with a set of low cost 12V phono amps to make a hybrid of Steelman's versions. Piezo is a high impedance source so running a wire all the way back to the monitor is like connecting an antenna to the input. Lots of static and even radio reception as well as unbalanced response between different clamps. Keeping the amp close to the clamp solves that, like they do with the radio and blue tooth versions. But I ran a separate cable back to a selector switch, as well as 12V power from the cigarette lighter for each one (actually one stereo preamp will accept two inputs). I used a 1.5" neodynium magnet screwed to the top of each preamp to hold them in place underneath the car as well as smaller magnets with carabiner hooks to string the cables. I had this terrible whine coming from somewhere after I took my Z3 out of the garage after sitting for 10 years. Turned out to be in the drive shaft center bearing, which was of course the hardest thing to get to. But the noise came through loud and clear. I had a old set of headphones and a pocket size headphone amp and 4 preamp outputs going through a phono selector switch so I could easily flip between 4 channels while out for a drive. It ended up costing as much as the high end Steelman version but I used all high quality components and cables.

Bought these because I broke one that came with the transmitter set. Works just like the ones that came with it, perfectly!
