1U shelf didn't hold up the radio, but this 2U shelf is much better quality and holds the radio just fine. Always good product material from StarTech.

I liked that the shelf was vented and sturdy. I also used tie-wraps to hold cabling and Items securly. The vent slots allowed for not only air flow but cable management. I would recommend and definantly purchace again if needed.

For the noobs out here installing this to their first rack... make sure to install this the right way. you want the rack to have the fins on the side below whatever you're mounting. See my picture for how it's supposed to be mounted.Aside from not being documented well, this thing is extremely sturdy. Loving it so far.

I like that these are sturdy, well ventilated and have a nice coat of paint. Note that the height is compromised because there's a lip in front to help with shelf strength. A 3.5" shelf really has only 3.25" of usable vertical space. Some nice metric mounting screws are included, but not the 10-32s you would find in traditional USA racks.

I have this supporting an 8 bay NAS server that includes a full size power supply and motherboard. Very well made and easy to install. The perfect depth too for a shallow wall mounted rack.

My server rack at work is an old 4-post telco rack with threaded posts. It's far less than ideal for mounting modern server rails and shelving but because it's already anchored to the floor and works, I'm not inclined to install a new rack unless it's absolutely necessary. This shelf works great for both modern server racks and the old telco racks where you may need to install a front or rear facing shelf to support equipment without having to buy a full shelf. For my use, I have a workstation that I wanted to have on the front of the rack only and didn't want to spend much money on it. With at least four screws in, this rack and the workstation sitting on it are rock solid.

This is one of those cases where what you get is exactly what you'd expect, from what you see on the web, other than that it's sturdier with thicker steel than I had expected for about $30. It comes with the little thingies (sorry) you put in the square holes so that you can use the screws to anchor it, and they go in more easily than any other I've used, which was a nice plus. Once all 4 screws are in, it feel really sturdy. There are a couple of things that I would change if I could:1) The lip on the front, while I understand strengthens the unit and prevents flex, also blocks the upper part of the space below it. Because I didn't have a server below the 2 unit space I was putting this in, it didn't matter, though the "filler bar" won't go back in. I suspect that if I had a server in the space below it, that I wouldn't be able to pull the server out without removing this. I'm not sure of that.2) I'd have like to have had a raised lip on the back. Nothing sharp that would dig into wires, but something blunt that would prevent anything from rolling off and perhaps this would eliminate the need for the lower lip in the front. Those things aside, this is a nice piece, well made for the money, and I'm not sorry I have it.
