About this item

  • Made In America
  • Green Acrylic 12" Tall 2" Wide Leaf Section With Freestanding Base
  • Safe Lightweight Alternative to Ceramic Cones and Natural Slate

Product Description

EGGS ON LEAF

Natural Egg Laying Habits

  • In the wild Angelfish and Discus will seek out broad sword plant leaves to spawn.
  • This natural instinct will also cause them to lay eggs on plants in your aquarium.
  • Even without plants a pair will sometimes pick a surface on area they can protect. Heaters and Filters being the most common but not ideal for raising successful hatches.
Angelfish Cleaning Slate

Fish will Clean the Slate Prior to Egg Laying

  • When you see the pair cleaning the slate eggs are soon to follow.
  • Some fish can be aggressive and move the slate around the tank when cleaning before laying. If this happens in a bare bottom setup I recommend weighing down the base with a rock or other aquarium safe item.
  • In a tank with substrate you can simply bury the base to lock it in your preferred position.
Angel Laying Eggs on Slate

Fish will then Lay Eggs on the Slate

  • Place slate away from strong currents for best fertilization.
  • The 2" wide by 12" tall egg laying portion has been sanded to simulate the leaf of a sword plant.
  • This provides a better surface for the eggs and fry to adhere.
  • Green Acrylic Blends in nicely with planted tanks.
Breeding Tanks with Breeding Slates

Safe Lightweight Alternative to Ceramic and Natural Slate

  • 100% acrylic one piece design wont change water chemistry.
  • In a glass aquarium, especially a bare bottom breeder setup, the lightweight acrylic is safer than slate or tile if the fish or fish keeper accidentally knock it over while its in use.
  • Works great as a standalone slate in bare bottom tanks and breeder setups.
  • Easy to clean and reuse.
Angelfish Fry on Slate

Useful for both Parent Raising and Artificial Hatching

  • Slate can be used for artificial hatching and raising where you remove the slate and treat in methylene blue shortly after the eggs are laid.
  • Slate can also be used for parent raising by simply leaving in the tank with the pair.

Not exactly what I thought it would be made like. Its like a kind of hard plastic. It will serve the purpose of what I need it for tho. I actually thought it would be heavier than what it is. Kind of light but will put gravel around it to hold it in place.

My angel fish love this. They lay eggs on it and nothing else now. They can protect them and keep them safe from all angles

My angel fidh lay their eggs on this instead of the filter tube so I can now take them out and try to raise some babies.

I saw my angelfish was egg bound so I ordered this slate. I put a few small rocks on the base to keep it from falling over or moving around. She hasn’t laid her eggs yet, but within an hour of putting it in my tank she claimed it as her own. She is hanging around it and cleaning it constantly. Excited to see her use it! Bad picture.. it was cropped from a video I took of another fish. But you get the idea.

The product fictions as advertised. The adhesive stickers on this product was hard to remove. For a product made for aquariums I feel they should have do something different.

Great product! Put it in and three days later my guys spawned on this instead of the filter intake that they love. Amazing addition to a breeding tank for egg layers. The green color isn’t so bad in a planted tank.
