Square D by Schneider Electric QO 15 Amp Single-Pole Dual Function (CAFCI and GFCI) Circuit Breaker

Dual Function: Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter
Square D QO 15 Amp Single-Pole CAFCI Circuit Breaker
Save time and money with combined Combination Arc Fault Protection and Ground Fault Protection in one device.

The innovate Square D QO Dual Function Circuit Breaker saves space and installation time while meeting prevailing National Electric Code requirements. Available in both standard Pigtail and time-saving Plug-on Neutral configurations, these circuit breakers combine two state-of-the-art technologies; Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection, in a single, easy-to-install device. The Dual Function Circuit Breaker offers superior electrical safety for homeowners.

The 2014 National Electric Code now requires both Combination Arc Fault and Ground Fault protection on all 1-Pole, 15 A, and 20 A kitchen and laundry circuits. Prior to the release of the Dual Function Circuit Breaker, a contractor or homeowner’s only choice was to use a Combination Arc Fault circuit breaker in conjunction with an expensive, bulky Ground Fault receptacle. The new Dual Function circuit breakers help reduce cost and eliminate the hassle of using two separate devices to provide essential protection. It’s a win for contractors and homeowners alike. Like all Square D CAFI Circuit Breakers, it is integrated with Time Saver Diagnostics, a unique feature that provides additional circuit information and minimizes troubleshooting at the touch of a button.

The single-pole Dual Function circuit breaker is engineered to meet 2014 National Electric Code requirements and designed to quickly identify and analyze when a hazardous condition exists.

How does Time Saver Diagnostics work?

Time Saver Diagnostics identify circuit issues faster. The Time Saver sequence is simple and easy to use, and requires no tools or special training. Simply turn off the circuit breaker, hold down the Push-To-Test button, and then turn the circuit breaker back on. It’s that simple! If the circuit breaker trips immediately, it is detecting a Fault to Ground. If the circuit breaker trips after a 2-second delay; it is detecting an Arc Fault. In either case, it is an indication that there is an issue ON the circuit and NOT with the circuit breaker itself. Time Saver Diagnostics is equipped in all Square D HomeLine and QO(B) CAFI Circuit Breakers (1-Pole and 2-Pole) and Dual Function Circuit Breakers with a date code of 1130 or higher. For more information on QO and HomeLine Dual Function Circuit Breakers, ask your authorized Schneider Electric distributor.

GFCI + CAFI = Dual Function Circuit Breaker

So much easier to find exactly what you need online than hunting it down in the big box stores, they have limited amounts and varieties randomly in stock. I installed an outlet in a waterproof box in my yard but wanted a circuit breaker in the fuse box instead of the outlet box. Now I am safe and have easy access should it be necessary. Pricing was pretty much equivalent to other sources.

This is a standard QO Dual Function Breaker. It works exactly as desired. Just make sure you torque it down appropriately and you're good to go.

This is a quality name brand product that installed easily without issue. These fault breakers can be very expensive but are required by code in my area when new electrical is installed. I was able to find this breaker at a reasonable price. I am not an electrician but was able to upgrade with this product myself.

I'm slowly converting all my standard circuits with these. They are protecting circuits not only for overcurrent as a standard one but also from any fire hazards with the arc-fault protection + give an extra protection against electrical shock hazard. Can't find anything better !Love them !

The breaker advertised has a pigtail for the older square d panels. The one that sent is worthless to me. Now I have to figure some way of shipping it back . Do not buy

The Square D by Schneider Electric QO 15 and 20 Amp Single-Pole Dual Function (CAFCI and GFCI) Circuit Breakers are fantastic! They work MUCH better than first generation Arc Fault breakers which would trip whenever you started a brushed motor (drill, vacuum, etc.). They reportedly have a two second arc fault delay before tripping, and I have not experienced any tripping from equipment of any kind.Combining both the CAFCI and GFCI in one breaker is brilliant. It save substantial cost where both features are required, and gives peace of mind on older house circuits with old wiring. Can also be used for older non-grounded circuits, but do your own homework on this one or consult your electrician. It does provide a non-grounded GFCI circuit, which is also reportedly CAFCI protected as well. There are mixed opinions on non-grounded GFCI circuits, and level of protection it offers, but it does work.If you retrofit with these breakers, and experience tripping, there is likely an neutral issue or a reversed hot and neutral somewhere in your system. For the DIY crowd, get a circuit analyzer such as a Mastech MS5908A (or the more expensive Extech CT70 or Ideal Industries 61-164). Even if one of the inexpensive 3 light plug style indicators says that the circuit is wired correctly, it still may not be. Only a true Circuit Analyzer can find certain issues wiring. Circuit Testers also can check wiring % amperage loss under various loads, voltage drops under load, GFCI trip times and currents, peak voltages, line frequencies (Hz), impedance - live to neutral, neutral to ground voltage, and a host of information that can make trouble shooting SO much easier. It can also give you peace of mind by measuring voltage drops on a circuit are within code (typically 5%), and not overloaded. Circuit Analyzers are really worth having if you do wiring. Back to breakers...PROS:- Regular over current + both CAFCI and GFCI protection (three functions - even though they call them dual function) in one breaker!- Very little cost increase over a CAFCI or GFCI only breaker.- No nuisance tripping as in the past with Arc Fault breakers- Available in 15 and 20 amp versions availableCONS:- Cost... these things are EXPENSIVE when you start putting them on each circuit.- Breakers are physically quite long, and may not fit in all slots of a Square D box. I had interference issues with the plastic insulation separators near the neutral bar at the top two slots on each side of the panel. No big deal.- All downstream neutrals must be segregated to that breaker only, and can not be attached as common neutrals with a different breaker. This can cause tripping if old circuit neutrals are wired incorrectly. But please ask your electrician about these details or use a circuit analyzer to test for underlying issues ...

I have no reason to believe that there is anything wrong with this item, but we have been getting occasional nuisance trips. I suppose it is due to this being a CAFCI, so it has the GFCI rating of 5mA ground fault, while the breaker I had in there before was an AFCI, which is rated at 50mA. I did the swap thinking I was "upgrading", but in the end, the nuisance trips are a bit of a hassle, thus the four stars. It seems that the basis of how/why it trips needs to be adjusted somewhat.
