If you're wanting to use this right away when you get it you're going to be a bit disappointed. The axe itself is solid, it'll hold up for a while with good keeping but the blade is dull, you'll need something to sharpen it with. That's not a huge issue for me, I have whetstones from my years sharpening / dulling blades at a Ren Faire (far more dulling than sharpening) so I took one of those to it and it was fine but ya, that's not a common item people will just have laying around the house. If you know how to sharpen blades this isn't an issue, if you don't make sure you know someone that does or that you're willing to learn (it's not complicated...be safe though, take it seriously).Overall I think it's a decent little axe though.

Solid wood chopping ax. I really like the rubberized grip on it. The blade came pretty sharp, but you can definitely hone it up. This works great for small firewood to get you started in the winter. It's very heavy duty feeling.

Product is well made, but I could not split wood with it, maybe not sharp enough?

I think it would be good for home defense. Nothing like an AXE in your hand to say to intruders: "Not this time buddy". I guess it would also be good during the apocalypse when we need to start hunting for firewood to stay warm when the grid goes down. Seems like a great deal for about 20 bucks. Would be nice if it had some sort of protective sleeve for the blade, but it might just sit in the bunker in case of apocalypse.Call it apocalypse insurance.

I understand they cannot really make these, "to sharp" to ship! But this is really pretty dull. I'll have to locate a way to sharpen it. But otherwise, it is a good, very solidly built hatchet. And it looks nice too.

I am delighted with this hatchet for splitting wood. It arrived razor-sharp, has a satisfying weight, and the side ridges facilitate splitting. I have already used it several times to split wood for my fireplace at home, and it remains sharp. The splits are consistently excellent. It is aesthetically pleasing and feels very sturdy in my hand. I plan to take it camping.

Really dull out of the box. I whacked a 10" long piece of pressure treated 2x6, which should have split if you stare at it right, and the axe bounced off. Second hit was able to get it to split. The head is epoxied on, and you can see the squeeze-out was not wiped up carefully when it was assembled. I've had to go back and trim some of it off with a utility knife. Checking sharpness, the blade is a little sharper on the grip end, but the head end is practically rounded over. It's gonna take some work to file it into a semblance of being sharp.Which leads to the next challenge -- the head is very much not flat so there's really no way to grab it in my wooden-jaw vise without denting the faceplates, and in the metal vise it's putting pressure on a couple points instead of solid contact with the sides of the axe head. So, I'm probably going to need to grab the handle instead of the head in my vise jaws.Because of how light it is, I will likely only be using this on smaller kindling and logs in the 4-6" range. For these purposes I'm not sure how much more effective this tool will be in comparison to the regular hatchet I already have. But before I can do anything with it I'm going to have to figure out how to get the blade sharp.

My husband is very happy with the purchase of this axe. It is solid, well-balanced, and comfortable to use. The sharp, durable blade makes chopping wood easy. The handle provides a secure grip and comfort while working. I highly recommend it!
