I ordered this set because I wanted the 8 small wood display cases that it comes with. If these were the only thing included I would be satisfied because each one is very nicely crafted and a fair value for less than 4 dollars each. With all the other added accessories it comes with, the whole set is an outstanding value and would make an excellent gift.

I read a quote years ago that said that "God must have an inordinate fondness for beetles." And that can be said for my child, also. My child collects them in any and all possible containers and I find them.. ewwwwww. I feel much better about a planned and organized beetle collection.I've got several siblings who also went through bug phases...one never outgrew it. So I've got some advice for you. Collect those slightly see through pill bottles that blood pressure medication and things like that come in from the pharmacy. If you don't use any meds just ask around your neighbors. Peel off the old label and put on new labels that clearly state "specimen." Keep them with you at all times and have a basket of them near the back door if that's where bugs tend to enter your house. Bugs only come into the house in a pill bottle and then go straight to the freezer.Have a designated spot for them in your freezer. I've got a tall box in the door that holds quite a few. The bugs die a painless death that way without any nasty chemicals like what my mother used for her bug collection when she was a kid (it apparently runs in the family). They thaw really quickly, no harm done. I mean they're dead. But no damage to the body. Then it's easy to just pin in place, identify, and label.I love these smaller boxes. There are bigger ones and that's just overwhelming imo. These are just right for one larger specimen or a while group of little ones. The quality is good and it would make a great gift (just ask the parents first). It includes everything you need except the pill bottles and a bug net. I really appreciate the addition of the tweezers for positioning the bugs. They aren't crappy plastic ones, they are good quality. The pins are sharp. You do need to cut the foam to size but that's not a deal-breaker for me. It's good foam, not just cardstock or something, so you can actually pin into it.I like this set and will buy another if/when my child fills it up

My aspiring entomology student is enjoying this. She just had an insect pinning class and this was a perfect follow up gift.
