The box is well constructed and looks nice, but it is only 1.5 inches deep with the pad, not 2.16. The pad is glued in so can't be removed, but even if it could be, it is very thin and not hiding .6 extra inches. That's a very large difference.If you need a box that is 1.5 inches from pad to glass, then this works great. If, like I do, you need one that is 2.16 inches deep, it blows.

Our daughter loves to study insects. This is a perfect wooden box to display medium to large insects including butterflies, moths, or beetles.
