Speedball Oil Relief Ink has become my trusted companion for creating beautiful block prints. This ink delivers exceptional results, making it a great choice for both beginners and experienced printmakers. The oil-based formula lays down a rich, vibrant green that produces stunning prints. The high-quality pigments ensure excellent colorfastness, so you can be confident your artwork will remain beautiful for years to come. Another advantage of Speedball Oil Relief Ink is its permanence. Once dry, the ink becomes water-resistant and archival, making it perfect for creating lasting pieces. While oil-based inks require a bit more care during cleanup compared to water-based inks, Speedball's formula cleans up well with vegetable oil. Plus, the 8-ounce container offers a great value, providing ample ink for multiple projects.Overall, I highly recommend Speedball Oil Relief Ink to anyone looking for a high-quality, permanent ink for their block printing endeavors. The rich color, archival quality, and reasonable price make it a winner.

As I'd expect from the speedball brand, this is wonderful oil paint for lino. Thick and smooth and a gorgeous deep green color. Coated wonderfully and made a nice clean print for me!

TLDR: Would’ve loved it if I was sent the right color. I ordered turquoise and got magenta. Sadly not even close to the color I needed for projects so I am pretty bummed out, but I will look for some other project options for this color. Opening the tin it seems like nice, vibrant, full color ink that will last. Hoping to find a use for it, but I do think it will work well when I do.

I found this product really difficult to work with. I have previously only used water-based block printing inks, so will admit that I was intimidated to try out an oil-based ink, and this experience has only made my reservations stronger. My product appeared to be in alright condition, one tiny dent in the container, but it was taped securely and no product had leaked out. When I opened the lid though the plastic seal inside was crumpled and broken, making it very messy and difficult to remove. Then because of this hole in the seal, the ink inside had dried out a lot, in big thick globs. The container doesn't really seal or securely close, it's just a metal lid with no threads that sits on top, not even snugly. I don't know anything preventing it from continuing to dry out like it was before it got to me, and I definitely don't feel comfortable storing it anywhere, with how much a hassle cleanup is.I did a few test prints, and they were patchy and had strangle crackles that I never get with my water-based inks. That being said, the color really is gorgeous. Shame that everything about it was a nightmare. If you get a container that isn't dried out, and are comfortable working with oil-based inks, this could be fine.

This works well, but it's very thick, very sticky, definitely requires solvent clean up (Master's cleaner worked okay, but still required elbow grease), and takes a very long time to dry. Definitely has the oil-based component- the oil will split out a bit and soak through some materials. 24 hours and still not completely dry in some circumstances. This is really best for those who are used to working with this type of ink- I would not recommend it for "hobby" use, like some water-based materials, which are much easier to use and clean up, even if the results are not as good. For the heck of it I tested a smudge of it on super thick sheets of cotton paper as a possible resist, just to see how it might function in other ways around my studio (I always test anything oil based as a possible resist for water based paints- you never know when you might hit on something that works well for multiple purposes) and it's absolutely not useful for that purpose.

This oil-based relief ink from Speedball is exactly what I expected from the brand. It's thick, low odor, and can be easily diluted with mineral oil for both print-making reliefs and usage even with stamps! If you can roll it onto a surface, you can make relief prints with it :)I fond that because of how thick this relief ink is, it can leave a texture on the paper when peeling back the relief block or stamp. If you don't like this texture, you can dilute the paint with mineral oil before applying. Please keep in mind that a little goes a long way! This will last me quite a long time as I use relief ink for stamping typically so I'm excited to have some solid black in my collection. I'd say this tint is close to a "space black" colour as I do not see any greens or reds when diluting the ink.Dry time was several days in my case due to the need for the paper to absorb the ink and the oil to evaporate off. So I would set aside your projects. If you live in a less humid climate, the dry time of this ink will be less but the more humid your climate is, the longer it takes for oil products to dry.
