What a well-made hammer!I’m not special forces, so I don’t know if this is really Spec Ops engineered, but it works well in my workshop. This is my first Spec Ops brand tool but I very impressed and it will not be my last. It’s a strong piece of equipment that delivers a solid blow with less effort and the short handle allows me to work inside cabinets, where longer handled hammers are more difficult. At 2 ½ pounds, I find that I can let the hammer (gravity) do more work than lighter hammers and mallets when aligning furniture parts before glue-up and clamping. The hammer grip is easy for me to handle and is also ideal for smaller hands. The removable rubber face cover allows a firm blow to wood and other surfaces without marring them. The rubber handle works perfectly and absorbs an amazing amount of the vibration even when is metal against metal. This is a commercial grade hammer at an excellent price point.A great addition to your toolbox.Five stars for me

Like the legendary watch brand, one doesn't need the level of design, materials, and exquisite manufacture to achieve the desired basic function (though the Special Ops Sledge does have a greater range of function than the typical sledge). But sometimes one chooses a tool that far exceeds the requirements for basic function--in this case being able to strike with great force--to gain longer working life (my watch is now over 45 years old), small improvements in function and/or range of application, or simply because one appreciates things that are exceptionally well crafted.I believe the Special Ops brand is targeted to those who appreciate perfection in all sorts of things, (i.e., not just tools), and those who wish their gift to convey something more than the ordinary--even for objects whose basic function may be rather ordinary. This is my sixth Special Ops tool, and all are exceptional in their design and manufacture.Specific to this tool, let me start out to say this will perform the basic function of striking with great force. But for me, it is too elegant a tool to diminish its appearance by bashing concrete or driving wood through a splitter. I have a couple of similar, but much less expensive alternatives that will do that just fine. No, mine is going to be dedicated to use in woodworking and forming of metal sheets. The soft mallet cap makes it especially suitable to assist recalcitrant joints into place. The underlying metal face is perfectly machined and lightly polished--it too can perform such tasks where surface finish will later be leveled and smoothed by sanding or planing. Both the flat an curved surfaces appear well suited for large scale, but light metal working--preferable with a metal a bit softer than the sledge faces.Which is not to say this thing needs to be babied, I just wish to baby mine to preserve its appearance. The tool itself is quite rugged and more capable than most in absorbing abuse. Plastic handle guards protect should there be mis-strikes. Though they are equally effective in allowing a comfortable grip when choking up on the head for more precise application. Indeed, the entire handle affords a secure grip; though I must say that for extended use, I would find a hickory handle to be more comfortable. However, the latter could not provide the level of shock absorbtion of the Special Ops. Furthermore, wood it general dimensionally changes according to humidity--eventually affecting the attachment of handle and head. This should never be the case with the Special Ops whose synthetic hand appears perfectly fitted to the head--likely secured by an epoxy. I can't imaging this head ever loosening from the handle.I could write many additional paragraphs describing all the design and construction details --the smooth machined sides of the head, that allow a broader application of force, the fitted rubber handle endocarp--but to truly appreciate them all, you need to have the tool before you. This is a tool that exemplifies what should be expected for a 5 star ranking. In this case, never more fully deserved.

I work in foundation repair and earthquake retrofit, when I have a stubborn post to place this makes it not so stubborn. If I need to straighten rebar or break something out of my way this gets the job done fast. And the mallet cap is a bonus.

I like hammers. You can fix just about anything with the right Hammer - one well contemplated blow on a broken wide screen LCD or cell phone and you'll never have to worry about those devices again. I have hammers for just about every occasion - more than I want to count or would admit to having. The baby sledge is one of those tools that makes you wonder how existence was even possible before you got one. The Special Ops 2.5lb baby sledge is a fine example of a quality hammer; the handle to head appears to be an indestructible connection, the two tone rubberized handle provides excellent grip, and the length of the handle is optimal for the weight of the head. The head has a flat (slightly rounded on the edges) face on one end and the other end has a round over – that could be used in lieu of a large ball peen. The hammer comes with a rubber cap that fits (and stays) nicely over the flat end – I really like the rubber cap; It let's me use this hammer as a large soft blow in the machine shop – very handy. The Special Ops is living in the machine shop. It's nice to have two baby sledges – it means my head only explodes half as often when I can't find my Baby, and that's a lot less brain matter to clean up. 7 Super Novas for The The Special Ops 2.5lb Baby Sledge ~ Thanks for Reading - Have an Incredible Life! ~

I recently ordered the Spec Ops Tools Engineering Hammer, and though I hadn’t used this brand before, I can confidently say it feels like the "Mercedes of Hammers." The 4 lb sledgehammer delivers incredible striking power with its RPG (Refined Power Geometry) head, making it perfect for heavy-duty tasks like demolition and metal shaping. The rounded peen end allows for concentrated force exactly where you need it.The removable non-marring mallet cap is a brilliant addition, effectively replacing rubber and dead-blow mallets while also dampening noise—a great feature for when precision is needed without damaging surfaces. The bi-material handle offers excellent shock absorption and vibration dampening, making each strike comfortable and controlled. The integrated composite overstrike armor further boosts durability, ensuring this hammer can take a beating and keep going. It's clear a lot of thought and quality went into the design of this tool, and knowing that a portion of the proceeds goes to veteran and first responder causes makes it even better. Highly recommended for anyone needing a reliable, powerful hammer for their projects!
