I have used these devices before and this one worked as it should. I recommend marking with a Sharpie the legal length so you can easily refer to it.

At first this was great and convenient.After I've caught several crappie and have become more experienced I realize that it's much easier to just carry a micro retractable tape measure in my pocket because this is big and clunky.I am a bank/shore fisherman.Maybe if you had a boat and space wasn't a priority then this would work out fine for you.However I have to carry fishing rods/reels, a net, a tackle box and bucket/cooler so size is important.

Just received mine in the mail and it looks like it will do exactly what I wanted it to do. I purchased it in spite of the numerous reviews warning about the bad sticker. Mine came with what looks to be a large mylar type sticker in the shape of a fish and it was only attached by 4 - 1/4" tape squares. Only took a few seconds to pull off the sticker and then use my thumb to pop off the tape squares. If mine is the new normal, then the manufacturer took the reviews to heart and made a change.

This makes culling those slightly undersized crappie easy! I mark the 10 inch measurement I need with a marker and cover with clear tape.
