I needed a sound box to put into a project that plays circus music. They don't make any that I could find. This sound box is programmable and you can put what you want into it up to 8mb. I thought the batteries were dead at first when it would not operate. It took some time to discover there is a very tiny unlabeled on/off switch on it. Also, this review asked about volume control. Again, I did not know it had one, but looking at the board I discovered a very tiny unlabeled switch for low, med and high volume settings. It would have been very nice if this device came with some kind of simple instructions and directions. That said, it is simple to load music into and the sound quality is really amazing considering the small size, even at high volume.

Plug it to your PC, load an MP3, give it 5V power, and press the button. It couldn't be easier. There is a volume pot that you can crank to make it louder. Sound quality is pretty good for what it is and it should work for a wide range of applications.

It doesn't come with instructions, but most of what you need to know is right on the listing. Once switched on, it only works when the sensor sees light, and immediately quits when dark again. It does have 8mb of memory and acts like a flash drive when you plug it into the computer (using the included cable). After you delete the pre-installed sample song, you can put any amount of songs up to 8mb. COMPRESS YOUR FILES if you want to put on multiple songs! (You can do that by ripping them again to lower quality, or going online to sites that do it free with a quick upload, compression, then download.) The speaker is okay (better than the kind in musical greeting cards, but nothing fancy), and lower quality mp3 files will be sufficient. I put four songs on mine and it works great. I had to play around to figure out how to play the songs in a particular order-- You need to RENAME the entire file title to "1", "2", etc. if you want them to play in that order. Any other effort with using lead numbers, or multiple letters, or anything else doesn't work for this. Once I just made them "1" ,"2", "3", "4", my songs played in exactly that order. It will ALWAYS restart at #1 song after it goes dark and back to light. But it only plays through your song(s) one time and stops until you reset it (dark, then light again). The on/off switch is labeled, but the volume is not; it's just a tiny slider near the one battery on the opposite side of the panel from the on/off & micro usb port. All-in-all, this little thing is pretty nifty, does well considering its size, and worth the money. I got this one to put inside of a gift box and it will play when the gift is opened. It has adhesive on the back so it can be stuck easily inside. Except for fussing around with the song order thing, it took about one minute to delete their file and transfer mine. Very easy to use! Your PC will automatically install the driver, so there's little to do. Thumbs up!

Batterie braucht man kein Werkzeug. A very neat product. Depending on your MP3 size you can get significantly more than a minute out it. The only real issue I had was that it doesn't come with a manual. Because of this, I don't have a clear idea of what the switch does. At first, I thought it switched the device from PC accessible to battery powered, however, the onboard memory was available in each position. When I applied 5Vdc the device would not start until I toggled this switch. In one of the positions, it accepts the DC power from the leads and the power LED is default off (I assume to conserve power) and only flickers dimly when it is actually playing.I have not tried adjusting the volume. Another review said it was possible but it is already plenty loud. The MP3 I wanted to play was softer than the default MP3 it came with so I recompiled the file with a louder default. Volume increases the current draw. See current measurements below. The oddest thing about this device was the mode where it was connected to the PC (where you upload your MP3 file). The LED light came on to show it was powered but I had to fiddle with my cable a bit to get it to register. (I have a very good cable so I am pretty sure it was the connector.) I run Windows 10 so it was able to run on that system. The weird thing was that I couldn't get it to play at first while connected to the computer despite the memory being 'seen' and LED light being on. However, as I started to pull the micro USB cable out, just as the device was loose enough NOT to be seen by the computer as a drive...suddenly it would play if I pushed the button. I would love to see the instructions. Is this a loose connection or an intended function. No idea but I can work with it and its fairly reliable. There is 5Vpad where the DC power leads are. These are the connections I used for all my tests. There is also a set of pads marked 3.7Vdc that have no leads attached. I have no idea what this is for. Is it an alternate DC in? Is it a DC out? I suppose I should have checked when I had the meters out... Oh well. Anyway, it would have been 5 stars if it came with a manual with the specs. The power draw from the device is 60mA maximum (from the MP3 default file) and about 30mA nominal. Using a variable DC supply I saw that it functioned down to about 2.9Vdc. I ordered a cheap LIR2450 coin battery and charger . This should run the thing for hours (3.6Vdc, 120mAh nominal). I am getting a battery holder from ebay. The Amazon ones are bit expensive. Looking at the specs of the LIR2032 (3.7Vdc, 35mAh nominal, 70mAh maximum), this would likely work as well for a much shorter time, but still at least an hour.Update: I downloaded the instructions! Paragraph 3 is still not explained but I have a bit more information. The 3.7Vdc lead is for a lipo battery and the manufacturer says that it will charge the battery when the micro USB is connected and powered. Yipe!
