This model's four-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. If you route the stereo output to an AV receiver, you can even enjoy four-channel (left, center, right, and monaural surround) Dolby Pro Logic mixes from TV and Dolby-encoded cassettes. The SLV-N71's dual-azimuth construction uses two pairs of recording heads rather than one, each optimized for a specific mode (one for SP recording, the other for EP), while 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode.
For setup, a single button calls up an onscreen menu to guide you through VCR setup, including parameters for features like menu language select, satellite receiver or cable-box control setup, and auto tuner presets. The VCR automatically marks the tape with an index signal at the point where each recording begins so you can easily scan back to the start of a recording using these signals as a reference.
The VCR's advanced Quick-set timer dial makes it easy to program the timer up to one month in advance. Press the dial once to activate the timer, then turn the knob to set it. You can adjust start and stop times in one minute increments. VCR Plus+ further simplifies programming, as it lets you set the VCR to record programs based on common PlusCode numbers found in the TV listings of over 600 newspapers and TV Guide--no more worrying about start and end times for your most frequently recorded shows.
Commercial Pass makes it easier than ever to zip past commercials and unwanted "coming attractions." Press the button once to go into high-speed picture search; press it again and the VCR stops, rewinds a few seconds so you won't miss any of your movie, then plays. Adaptive Picture Control (APC) tests each tape and adjusts recording parameters for the best performance and adjusts playback for an ideal balance between picture sharpness and low video noise.
ChildLoc circuitry keeps small hands from going where only tapes belong. With the handy one-hour timer back-up, the VCR saves timer data for up to one hour in the event of a power loss. The unit comes with a multi-brand TV/VCR remote control.

it didn't even work. most of the buttons were jammed....I know its old but at least you should know for sure it is working before you send it out....

First VCR didn’t work,so I returned it. They did not understand that I wanted a replacement per Amazon. It took weeks to get the replacement. However, they did credit my cost and gave me the replacement at no cost. The last unit appears to be working with no problem.

It worked right out the box, including the remote. I am in the process of converting old VHS tapes to digital from as far back as 30 years ago. Using Elgato and this VCR has made it a breeze, and so much fun. I feel it has helped me go back in time. Thank you so very much for helping me in accomplishing this project that I have put off for years!

I bought this item for an elderly couple who are home bound who had a lot of vhs tapes and are not in a position to replace with dvds. I knew that trying to purchase a working VCR would be a challenge due to the age of these machines. This item was advertised to be in good working order. It came shipped with the outer cover halfway off the machine. It also came with a universal remote that will not work the machine. I ruined a vhs tape just trying to make the machine work at all. I had to disassemble the machine in order to remove the tape from a machine that was not in working order from the beginning. I do not expect a refund for the machine since obviously the seller knew the machine didn’t work to begin with. I am very disappointed in this purchase. I am an avid amazon customer and have never had this experience in the past. My opinion is this item was falsely advertised and the seller knew it was not functional. You may have got me for the money, I hope you are happy with yourself. Thanks a bunch.

I bought this to copy my VCR tapes onto DVD's. I really didn't realize when I bought this, that it's the exact same one I already own. I wanted a 2nd one that didn't need to be hooked up to the TV, only to my recording device. Since there were no instructions with it, it worked out just fine because I already know how to operate everything. I'm just getting started, so I'm hopeful it will continue to work properly. It could have used a dusting off prior to shipping but I was impressed by how well it was protected in the box with lots of bubble wrap and it was double boxed. So far, so good.

This is the first time I have written a review for anything I have purchased on AmazonBut, I wanted to write this review, because if you are like me and still have analog television and watch VHS moviesthis is the easiest VCR to purchase and hook up.The VCR came to my door, I took it out of the box, plugged it to my coaxial F plug on my old television set, whichby the way, is the only plug I have on the TV set to plug into a VCR and I was able to start watching movies right away.No problems, no hassles, no having to read the entire manual just to understand how to hook the VCR up.A Wonderful piece of equipment, worked right out of the box, would highly speak to all that want a VCR to buy this productI do have to say if you have cable, it is just as easy to hook up. This VCR will hook up to both RCA plugs, or just your standard old time coaxial F plug.This is all you have to mess with to hook to your VCR and to your television set and it is that easy.The Sony VCR is the easiest VCR on the market to use, it is heavy and not made of plastic and it is a very simple VCR.No fancy bells or whistles. My advice is, if you want something more advanced, chose something different. Or is you are very picky, do not order this VCR, you need a new model.This VCR is an older model that is solidly built, but nothing fancy, which is my kind of VCR.
