DVD's work but blue rays refuse to load, you can see it's trying to read the blue ray with the lid off, but it keeps refocusing the blue laser trying to read it, it eventually just gives up. DVD's work no problem though, little disappointing but it's better than nothing.CECH-4001B

If you have a PS3 that does not read DVDs anymore, you may have seen that most people say the new drive has to be married to the PS3 using proprietary Sony software. It's apparently not easy software to get your hands on. When you dig enough though, you find hints that the Super Slim is different. Something about a Blue Ray daughter board that isn't used in the Super Slim being the reason. I don't know about any of that for sure but I took I chance and bought one of these.This replacement is a nice quality drive, clean, new and well lubed. Exact match in every way I can see to my original KEM-850 drive. Installed with no problem, simple remove and replace. Fired up the console and it spun up and read DVDs with absolutely no problems at all! For such a low price, I couldn't happier. No messing with firmware or software changes of any kind needed.Beat-up old PS3 back in service after 8 years! I added a 500GB SSD as well to celebrate to occasion. I should have bought one of these DVD drives long ago. Time to dust off the PS3 games shelf - think I'll start with Dishonored.My console is a PS3 Super Slim model number: CECH-4001B and uses the KEM-850 deck. If that is what you have as well, this is the drive you need.

Purchased this drive for a ultra-slim PS3, said it was the correct one, which it was the correct drive, it just didn't work properly. Would move the laser eye, but then it couldn't spin the disc. Had to have another one put in. Waste of money and time.

Swapped it out with the old and in with the new and it works nicely, reads dual layer games with ease!

These lens units are not manufacturer well at all.The new lens unit only lasted 5 days before it stopped working.The blue ray lenses are shoddy to put it nicely.I do NOT recommend ANY of these lens units at all.It is best to buy a replacement from Sony. Their's will at least function longer than 1 week.Oh, and if it does fail so soon, Sony will at least replace the unit.Can't say that about the seller on this site. Still stuck with the non-functional drive.This is an "avoid if possible" item.

I replaced the Laser Lens in my PlayStation 3 Console with this . I am back up and running and it is working great Saved me a lot of money I didn't have to spend on buying another console be it PS 3 or PS 4 or for that matter the Xbox 360 or Xbox one . And if it still didn't work after replacing the lens at least I wasn't out of a big loss of funds that I spent for nothing but in my case it worked out great and at a much cheaper cost than having to buy another one used or new .

I'm a total novice DIYer and this was so easy to install. The hardest part was getting the plastic casing off without breaking the tabs that hold the sections into place. Took about 45 minutes (while watching and pausing a Youtube how-to) and it works perfectly. If you're considering repairing your PS3 instead of buying a refurbed one, definitely take the time and do it yourself because it's totally manageable by anyone curious enough to try.

Fixed a customer's super slim that wouldn't read discs. Fast shipping. Only con is it doesn't come with the required torx. Newbies beware, the super slim is quite a bit harder than the already complex slim. Will take time, patience, and YouTube to replace by yourself. It even did for me and I'm a seasoned tech.UPDATE:Barely over 30 Days (almost a week to the day after the warranty expired) after receiving and installing this laser unit, and it's already dead. My client and I are both hoping I happened to get a bunk unit. Rather than these units all being bunk. Thankfully I purchased a 3rd party protection plan and should be getting the faulty unit replaced. Buyer beware, it's obviously worth the $5 to buy an additional protection plan. Otherwise I'd be spending another $40 for a replacement. I recommend the . Another plan I recommend is the . A little more expensive but SquareTrade has always been absolutely awesome!Hopefully they can earn back their stars with a stress free, quick replacement, a long lasting replacement, and no additional cost to myself. A box full of candy wouldn't hurt my mood either.I will update my review as things progress.
