This player really didn't last that long. CD player will not play certain types of recordable CD's. Very picky about what it will play and won't. Sony makes some decent products but this wasn't one of them.

The cassette tape device on this player failed rather quickly. The mode of failure was that it would work for a few minutes and then suddenly it would be almost silent. If you listened carefully you could still hear a very soft version of the material being played but the sound volume had gone almost entirely.Since I felt that Sony has always been a quality product, I bought the newer version of this same device. The new version is shaped more like a football. I know it's the same inside because the remote control for the old one will still operate the new one. My new version has not failed yet. I am hoping for the best.

I needed something that I could take around the house and sometimes to church that wouldn't be too bulky and yet would work well. This is a nice unit. I like the stability of the design. The sound is really rather good. It's nice to have an actual antenna as well. That makes it much easier to pick up more and clearer radio signals. It looks looks nice and can fit in a fairly small space.I only paid about $60 for it and I consider it well worth the money spent.

I purchased this item and received it during November 2008..Used it very little..On Christmas Day 2009 it just stopped working...no power coming thru on AC operation....No help available and all Sony wants to do is exchange it for about the same price I paid ($67.00) for the new one which means I would have to pay shipping charges both ways. Not a good deal!!

This is the second Sony CFD-E100 that we have purchased. The first one was a gift for my son that we found at Target. It has been the BEST radio purchase we ever made. Even after 4 years of heavy use, that radio is still going strong. We were looking for gift for one of my daughters who has gone through a few different radios in the last several years. So, we chose to purchase another Sony since the first one has performed so well. The sound is very nice from this unit. I like it's unique shape which is a more stable build than the traditional "brick" design. The cassette access is in the rear of the unit while the CD access is on the front along with the radio display. It even comes with a remote control which works well and is an added benefit. We will be purchasing at least one more of these radios in the near future for our bedroom - we like it that much!

I bought the Sony cfd-e100 as a Christmas present for my wife. She loves it. It has a nice, clean appearance and fits into a relatively small space. The sound quality is decent although the mega-bass feature does nothing as far as I can tell. It is easy to program the channels on the radio. The remote control is also easy to use. The one drawback of this radio is that the display is LCD (liquid crystal display) and not LED. Therefore you cannot see the channels at night. The radio was shipped promptly.

The unit was a little bigger than I envisioned, but only because my imagination is not very accurate. It can't be too much smaller and accomodate the width of a CD and some speakers.I think the design is clever, considered, and admirable. Even when the handle is lowered it does not interfere with the tape deck, for example. There's nothing to complain about in this unit, given its size and price, but it doesn't quite thrill you, either. I'd have gladly traded the remote for an aux jack that would let me pipe my MP3 player. But I needed tape and CD, portable, at a decent price, and that's what you get here.

I loved this unit... the size, the sound, the footprint. And the name SONY. But just after a few times, the CD player went bad. Now, when I put in a disk, I simply get a "No Disk" error. It has become a Radio-Tape boombox, no CD. Very disappointed. Then I went on the web and found others have been having this kind of problem with other SONY units and bemoaning the loss of the once revered SONY quality.I understand things can go wrong and I am left wondering whether this was a stray problem or due to poor manufacturing quality. In either case I am stuck!
