I learned to solder using a sponge as a tip cleaner. I have seen a lot of YouTube videos where I see the guys using these to clean their iron tips. To be honest I was a little skeptical. I have to say this thing works great. I still use my wet sponge for certain things but this cleans the tip well. My only criticism is the base could be a tad heavier or I’m just to aggressive. I recommend this plus it comes with a few other items great value.

I bought this mainly to use as a tip cleaner, the other items were just a bonus. The solder itself is very small and thin, would be great if using it for very small and delicate electronics. For my use, it was just to small and has since been thrown in a drawer. The flux works as should, but note that it is not a large amount, just enough to be useable depending on the situation. Now for the brass cleaner, this is my first time using this style of cleaner, and I must say that I apparently have been missing out. It is so easy to use, just push it in a couple of times, and the tip comes out flawless. I have used sponges in the past, but this will be my new go to method, and will be used every time that I soldering. I did put two of the wire nests in the holder at once, just to "fill" it up. With the extra sponges, and how often I solder, I imagine these will last me for at least a decade.

So as someone that uses MG chemicals solder and uses Amtech flux the solder and flux that comes with this kit are pretty good considering everything this kit comes with. The cooper balls are actually cooper and not copper coated steel . The solder melts and flows well and the flux does its job well for the price it really can’t be beat
