Couldn't be more pleased. I love the quality of this SOG Camp Axe, the size, the weight, and how it looks. It arrived quite sharp too. Amazing item, so glad I ordered it - and from the seller I ordered it from, Rev6. Oh yeah, I did forget to mention the blade cover. Not too great. Could have definately been a better design as many reviewers have mentioned, however it works (for now) - but needs a better cover.

It's really Just OK. It is Light & looks Kool. But the Handle is Hard Plastic & a pretty poor Grip. If You are Chopping? Make sure Nobody is Standing close... Made In CHINA. wish I spent a little More & Bought American

Compact, lightweight, sturdy, and sharp. Super handy little axe to have around when off the beaten path. The lack of a holder with a belt loop is the only reason I couldn't rate it 5 stars.

This small axe works great for camping. Nice and sharp, handy for pounding tent stakes, and is light weight. Recommended.

I use it camping, basically for hammering tent pegs and then random wood chopping and branch clearing. Balance is good and solid but not cumbersome. The shape of the cutout makes it easy to hold and is great for random tasks that need a sharp edge. The sheath/blade cover is ok. I’ll prob buy a leather one if I can find one that fits.

Also für mich absolut kein Messerersatz.

Nice little axe from SOG. It's nice and compact that you can just throw in your pack. Great axe for chopping little to moderate pieces of wood. If your looking to split logs, don't expect that from this axe. But 1 to 2 inch logs should be more than adequate for the job. I carry this in my hiking pack as well as my hunting pack. It comes out of the pack pretty sharp, but I like mine razor sharp so I sharpened it up a bit more. The axe is great to choke up on make some feather sticks and kindling for fire. Back of the axe is excellent as a hammer. Just wish it came paracorded on the handle like SOG's survival hawk. But nevertheless I paracord mine, to add btter grip to the glass nylon handle. It's a good peice to add to any collection. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

Alright. This thing is truly awesome. It is exactly was I was looking for. I was very apprehensive about the price however upon receiving this great little axe all my fears disappeared. First off I personally love the design of the blade itself. Being able to get your hand up close to the head behind the “drop beard” portion provides excellent control for smaller tasks such as shaving wood chips for kindling. I’ve now had the opportunity to take this with me into the woods for several day camping and hiking expeditions and it has proved not only very useful but extremely durable.I’ve chopped from soft to hardwoods and as expected the harder the wood the harder the chopping. Be mindful. This axe is only one pound and has a shorter handle than most. It is not designed as a splitting hatchet, but as a lightweight all around axe that is small enough to pack along when space and weight is a concern. This is not to say it won’t split to my extreme satisfaction but it is not designed for large work.As I mentioned above the overall weight is very light. A mere single pound. However it is balanced extremely well with nearly all of the weight in the head. Without making it forward heavy. The hammer side, despite the lack of weight does a fine job of pounding stakes. Just this past weekend I was in the woods constructing a small wind break out of deadfall trees and sharpened a wooden stake of approximately 2 inches in diameter with the blade and then turned it around and drove it into the frozen Minnesota ground with unexpected ease. The handle seems to be of fine construction and I have not had any problems with it coming loose. The edge has not chipped or rolled in any way but if you want it to be hair shaving sharp it will need to be touched up with a steel honing rod or similar tool after each use. But as far as edge retention it seems to be standing up very well for chopping standards. The only negative I have is the same as many others. The sheath. It just plain isn’t great. Period. Sturdy yes. However inconvenient to place on or remove from the blade as it fits extremely tight. I have looked into ordering a leather sheath to replace this one with entirely and will likely do that.Overall I don’t think I could have found a better candidate for my primary woods tool to take camping and hiking. Very sturdy product.Good luck and happy hunting. Sorry for the long review. Hope it helps in your decision. I’m glad I picked this one.

I read a lot of reviews and did a lot of Amazon searching before purchasing a camping axe and I was split between this and one other one that I forget right now but I am glad I chose this one. This is very lightweight and very sturdy. I used the squared off back end of the axe head to nail down the tent spikes so I wouldn't need to bring a mallet and the axe blade to chop my firewood into smaller pieces if I needed it. You won't be able to split really large pieces of firewood with this without A LOT of effort, but smaller logs like a foot to a foot and a half in length you won't have much issue with. I did read about people having issues with the sheath and how they wish there was a way to clip it onto your belt or something but honestly I had no issues with it. It does seem like the strap could come loose on it but it won't if you close it properly. You can keep this in your base camp or carry it with you on a hike if you want but you just have to figure out a way to take it on the go as it doesn't have any clips to it, but I imagine it would be easy to fashion something out of paracord or something to hold it in place to your pants or your pack.
