Copperhead Series™ Snake Hook, The Balanced & Rugged Hook™
I made my first snake hook from an old golf club way back in the 1970's. I've carried that hook on many adventures in the field over the years and it's been my go-to field hook for some 40 years—until now.
Recently, I've revisited the design with the goal of offering an affordable snake hook of the very highest quality. I wanted it to be both functional and beautiful. Perhaps more importantly, I wanted it to still be functional and beautiful after decades of hard use. Some quite popular snake hooks use aluminum for the hook. That keeps it more balanced by keeping the hook lighter at the front. However, aluminum is not very strong and it doesn't age well. I didn't want my hooks to look like they'd been dropped off the back of a pickup too many times after a few years of real use. Could I make it stainless steel and still keep it well balanced?
After experimenting with many approaches it became clear that I couldn't limit the design to off-the-shelf components. So, I designed something completely new—a solid copper ferrule to attach the hook end to the shaft. Now the thickness of the stainless steel can be sized for the strength needed and not just sized to plug the hole in the end of the shaft. This one simple design innovation creates a snake hook unlike any other hook on the market.
The result is the Copperhead Series™ Snake Hook, the Balanced & Rugged Hook™. The moment you hold one in your hand, you'll see for yourself.
Also available in a 33" cage length version.

Exactly what I was looking for! Very well made, high quality. These are professional grade. Seems to be strong enough to last a lifetime.

Sturdy enough, with a bit of flexibility to it, point could be a little more rounded, but not sarp enough to be a threat, my baby outgrew the crappy little folding hook they sell at my local pet shops and this should last the rest of her life... and it'll be safer than poking around my bushes outside with a walking stick for copperheads when gardening

Figured if I bought this, Murphy's law would certainly keep all the snakes out of my yard for the rest of the season. It did not. Two days after the hook arrived, so did a big, fat, cranky western diamondback rattlesnake.First test of the hook was a success! Snake was about 3.5' long and striking before I even touched it (And without bothering to rattle. Jerk.) Getting the hook under the coils and moving it to the bucket was easy (and the whole transfer would have been easy with a snake that was less of a jerk) but--purely due to user error--I touched the side of the bucket with the angry snake and she launched like she came out of a cannon.I loved the beveled edge which made it easy to get under the fat snake, the grip was really nice, hooking the jerk was easy, and other than the aforementioned operator error, it was a great first test of the hook!Edited 3 months and 23 rattlesnakes later: Still LOVE this hook.

After misplacing my previous hook in a move, I sorely needed a new one. Doc came to the rescue with this amazing hook! Perfect for fieldwork with the local desert herps as well as a must-have tool for the at-home collection's notorious biters. Light yet sturdy and nicely balanced, this wonderful hook is more than strong enough to wrangle some of my larger irritable boas with ease, and I trust its sturdiness to manipulate the largest rattler. It's not excessively long, and those dealing with very large hots may want something a little bit longer, or to use tongs with a closing jaw. This hook, however is perfect for most needs in a mid-sized or smaller range. 10/10, definitely recommend.

I've used the 33 inch version for years and have loved it like no other. I decided to buy my friends a hook and went with the 33 inch because I knew it would meet all of their needs, and added a 43 inch for myself. I'm very happy with both, they feel so nice in the hand, balanced, lightweight but sturdy. I love the design and have never seen them bend.Honestly I only use DocSeward hooks at this point, my others got shelved when I got my first one. You can't go wrong with either length, both are indispensable tools for a dedicated keeper or herper.

I keep this in the back seat of my car to get snakes off the road safely. I have been in a situation where I cant find a stick or anything sturdy to move a copperhead off the road so I decided to get a snake hook so I wouldn't be tempted to free handle a copperhead. This particular hook is great because it can stand up to the abuse of being kept in my hot car and having my dogs step on it every day. I unfortunately haven't had a chance to use it with any snakes yet and I doubt very much that I will be handling many venomous snakes anytime soon with a pandemic but I like having the right tool in case a rattlesnake is basking on the road and I need to get by. Also about once a year I get a call to move some "poisonous" snake from a friends barn and while it has never actually been a dangerous snake that required special tools I know the day will come and this snake hook will do the job perfectly. It is a great tool at a great value and if you are the person everyone knows as the reptile person then I think this is a good investment.

This is a really well-made snake hook. It’s light, well-balanced, and shows a nice attention to detail, right down to the copper ferrule and the subtly eased edges and points of the hook. It’s sharp enough to get under a snake, but not sharp enough to inadvertently cut or puncture the snake. The golf club grip is just right. Plenty of room for two hands, if needed, and fits the hand nicely.I’m glad Doc went with stainless over aluminum for the hook - it’s less brittle, and much more durable. Plus the finish is much nicer. This hook is for use in the yard, although I could see carrying it if I’m going into the nearby woods during snake season. I wish I’d had it back in the day when I went on collecting trips during my undergraduate years studying biology. But we have a fair number of snakes around here, so I expect it will get plenty of use. There are cheaper hooks out there, but I bought this one because of the reasons mentioned above. Hard to tell from a written description and a few pictures; it turned out to be even better when I had it in my hands.Very well worth the money, in my opinion.

I am thrilled with this hook! Our neighborhood is dealing with a large rat snake population explosion this year, and I’m trying to help them to safety. Being that these guys are fast and spooked from being constantly chased by shovels and the neighborhood poodle patrol, I’ve been using the hook to get them into a bucket and relocate them to somewhere more hospitable.I’m dealing with snakes between 3-7’ long and this is a great hook to have on hand. It’s extremely sturdy unlike the retractable ones, but lightweight. Easy to maneuver but light enough not to stress the snakes out too much. It’s definitely a handy tool to have nearby and it will be getting plenty of use throughout the summer.
