Got this to play CDs in my mini component stack. It's a great player with a good feature set and very solid build. The built in DAC is supposed to be good but I am running it via coax into a heavily upgraded FX-Audio DAC-6 MkII and it sounds excellent. My big complaint (and many other people's) is about the gapless playback. It's been pretty well documented that if you just put in a disc and hit play then it will play with no gaps between tracks. However, if you skip or seek at any point during play the PL100 will "forget" how to play gapless, and there will be breaks between your tracks. If you own a lot of DJ mix CDs, live performances, or other recordings that are intended to play seamlessly the pauses between tracks are jarring and annoying. There's no excuse for this flaw in this day and age. Hopefully it gets addressed with a firmware update. Thankfully just pausing a disc doesn't trigger the issue, so at least there's that. Be prepared for rude interruptions if you decide to skip or rewind a track, though.

Works great, just as good as any cd transport I've used, cheaper, and a far better option than using an old dvd player.

Mycket prisvärd, använder den som CD-transporter via extern DAC med mycket bra resultat.

… but so can thrift store dvd players - upscale for audio - via digital outputs to an outboard DAC, of which I’ve three present to choose from. So far I’ve just tried one, via the PL-100 —> DAC —> HP Amp, but -hallelujah! - I preferred the sound of the PL-100 on its own. It has an internal Cirrus Logic CS43131 chip, of which I’ve heard good things.I’ve several other DACs in storage but doubt that any of them can offer me a substantial “upscale” from this.Since this player is, for my use, an ‘indoor portable,’ that is the best part for me. I remember those battery powered plastic portable CD players, and while this is not that portable, it’s beyond ten times better in every other way. It’s a one outlet CD player that I can move around easily for headphone use with excellent sound. Even though the mini-jack is on the rear panel, the size of this player makes it easy and the sound is very detailed & true to the source.I’ve also tried it briefly in a bedroom system with speakers, but prefer to have it more available to move. When i tested it for speaker use the remote did not control the volume, whereas via the HPs it did - remote or panel buttons. In ‘portable mode’ I’m within reach of the volume buttons on the face of the PL-100 anyways. The buttons are multifunctional and require a learning curve, and have odd function, for example a fast press of either the back or forward track button does that, but a long press reverses that through the track itself. On the remote a button that the manual has marked “no function” ejects the disc, which is fine. I’d love to try its RCA outputs in the better systems I don’t have access to presently; better quality preamp, amp & speakers; I feel it would not disappoint.I may try it with a portable battery but how long that may work I don’t know, & at 2.6 solid pounds it’s not for walks in the park. Get this as a definite upgrade to the thrift store - with - digital output players for CD use, that lack HP access and have inferior DACs.

First impressions using a jazz CD that is one of my favorites so I know it well. The sound is absolutely wonderful. Clarity, separation and soundstage all more than expected as it improved what was already coming through the system via streaming. So on that alone, I totally recommend this player. I will update if that changes. Why 4 stars and not 5? A draw for this player was size, it fits my space nicely and it comes with a remote...just what I needed! My system is all compact, Wiim Mini and now this PL100, going into an SMSL SU-1 DAC, into a Fosi P-3 preamp and then into a Fosi BT20a pro with Sparkos op amp upgrades and out to Polk Rti4 bookshelf speakers. Modest but amazing.None of the other devices has a remote. The Wiim has volume control in the app which is great, and utilized. It (the Wiim) goes in via optical to the DAC. The PL100 goes into the DAC via Coaxial and as I said, this set up sounds great, but the volume on the PL100 remote and front panel only works via RCA output, not digital. My amp has one RCA in and that comes from the preamp so no option for me to use the built in DAC in the PL100.The remote still works to pause, stop and play the CD, but no volume control. Even so, on quality of sound using an outboard, modest DAC, this is a great CD option on a budget or not.

A CD player, DAC, and headphone amp all rolled together into one device for a reasonable price, what's not to like? The player is solidly built and comes with a remote control (nice touch!) Outputs are digital optical, digital coaxial, and 3.5mm headphone, so the player can function as a transport for other DACs/Amplifiers. Definitely a step up from your typical portable CD player! Please note that even though the player comes with 1 USB-A to USB-C cable and 1 USB-C to USB-C cable, you must provide your own 2 amp power adapter (as stated on the back of the player.) I tried a 1.5 amp adapter and a 3+ amp adapter, and the player did NOT function correctly with them. The 2 amp definitely works!I'm no audiophile, but using this player makes me feel like I'm hearing my old CDs again for the first time. Definitely a win!
