I have an sp404 and a few synths and romplers that I like to play with, but I wanted a box I could use to compose and arrange with, and that Ibcould take with me pretty much anywhere.I bought it and I was a bit skeptical because of some reviews I had read. Apparently a lot of people either don't gel with the workflow or are maybe expecting something a little different to what the device is actually made for. I went in not knowing if I would like it.But, I've had it for over a week now and I love it. It fits my needs exactly. It's fun to use, sounds great, the pads are excellent and it does what I need it to do, which is a portable songwriting device. It is NOT a substitute for an mpc or an sp404 or something along those lines. The FX in this is very limited so I don't necessarily expect to have polished tracks from it. However if I import samples from my SP or record direct using outboard fx I can get very nice results. Also, I really like the ability to sequence outboard gear with midi, and it is very easy to do so. For me, the possibilities are pretty endless and the device occupies several niches in my studio.Would I recommend it? Yes and I th8nk you should at least give it a try. I have bought gear many times that I loved the idea of but hated it when I used it and vice versa. You really don't know until you try it.

I have my fair share of gear, especially samplers (including the king - MPC).Straight up, after my MPC… this might just be my new favorite - it works as a charm with my iPad and iPhone (main production systems for me), and is an amazingly fast and intuitive groove box.Whilst some details remain, sonicware seems to be very responsive to their clients and I would imagine fixed will come (for example, piano roll is kinda slow to work with - you can sequence notes but not really their duration or gates… etc). Definitely check a YouTube video before purchasing but IMO:This beats any groove box around their (and even worse) pricing: definitely a better groove box than the MC-101, also than the circuit rhythm and tracks (and I love all these devices btw). Maybe even the greatest companion to precisely THOSE machines themselves (combined they should make for an amazing mobile setup).Loving mine and honestly wish I had gotten it earlier - much earlier: probably would have kept me busy far longer than my first groove boxes (ie, mc 101 - a great device but very “standalone”, not great to work with when using stuff like iPad and iPhone as production centers).

This is the groovebox to end all groove boxes. It has the connectivity to control and sample anything, excellent performance and looping ability, and deep tools, sample banks, and controls to make music with or without a computer. It’s portability is amazing and the sound quality is perfect. A+++++

This is by far the best sampler available in it's price range.* NO Computer required!* Very easy to use.* Velocity sensitive pads with lighted keyboard style modes for playing notes.* Over 30 voice polyphony.* Can do chromatic musical playback of samples with 8 note polyphony per track!* Nice effects.* Actually portable.* Real MIDI connectors.* Can do MIDI sequencing.* Built-in speaker.* Professional quality sound processing. The lighted piano style keyboard mode is very useful. It's the reason the pads are laid out the way they are, with 15 pads instead of the usual 16. This way the sharp keys show up between the other keys as they would on a piano. There are shift/scroll buttons on the side that move the keyboard up and down to higher or lower notes so you can easily enter a full set of notes that span the length of a real piano. Very nicely done. It's like having a little portable keyboard when in this mode.Recorded samples sound very professional and are real easy to capture. You can even plug your cell pone in using the USB port, and it can sample sound directly through the USB cable. Nice feature. For someone looking for a chromatic sampler that they can play like a keyboard, this is a really good option, especially if you attach a real full size MIDI keyboard to it.The instrument sample sounds it comes with aren't the best. They don't really show off it's high quality. I've loaded lots of high quality stereo instrument samples, and sound effects, and that makes a huge difference in what you can do with it.It has all the features I need in a small portable form factor. It's a lot of fun to use.It takes a bit of time to get used to the controls. But it's easy to use once you get the hang of it. Everything is laid out in a logical way.The step record and live record modes are very well done. Putting together a new rhythm track with a base line and some backing is really easy and quick to do with the interface. It's got a very natural flow to it.This is the most fun musical device I've purchased in a long time.Very highly recommended. The only downside is the small screen. But it's crisp and is used very well by the interface.

This is my first sampler, and so far I love it. Easy to use, hard to put down. I carry it everywhere. Be sure to buy rechargeable batteries.

Its versatility is unbelievably great at this price point.

I was able to get to a point that I was comfortable with the workflow in about an hour compared to the mpc one that took me weeks to learn. It is not as deep or powerful as the mpc but I find I use it a lot more. Lot of fun!
