First cutting hay is the high fiber stuff. It isn't as fattening as the later cuts, but has more of the flowery heads. It is not quite as soft as the 2Cnd and 3rd cut. It is meant for animals who have chronic GI/digestive tract issues, and require as much fiber as possible. 1St cutting timothy hay - high fiber and great quality! quality characteristics of 1St cutting "high fiber": 1. Higher fiber than any other cutting 2. More flower heads than any other cutting 3. A little more stem than 2Nd cutting, but still very soft and Leafy.

My rabbit,Andy, loves the long hay pieces. I’ve ordered the first cut twice and will probably try soon of the other products. My only criticism is the delivery packaging. I realize this is an Amazon choice. I agree with minimum packaging but the hay comes in the box from Small Pet Select and twice it has been raining when it was delivered. We were home at the time but if the hay becomes wet I won’t be able to feed it to my rabbit. Love the product; the packaging a little less.

I've had my bunny girl for over 3 years now, and finally found a way to try this brand (they don't ship to my area with their regular website). This is the freshest hay that I've ever gotten for her! She's enjoying it, and I'm so pleased with the quality.

Super fresh and full of the tiny bits out piggie likes. Also, very nice touch with the handwritten messages.

Can only get good green hay, during season. That's a couple months out of the year!

I actually ordered this on accident and usually get the 20lb box of orchard grass hay (which is also very good quality). When I saw this was 1st cut timothy hay I initially got worried it would be too hard/rough for my guinea pigs, and that I might have to run up and buy some at the feed store, which I don't like doing because a lot of the time the hay isn't very fresh. But this stuff is just gorgeous hay. It's softer and of better quality than almost all 2nd cut hay I've tried, and is far superior to any 1st cut I've ever seen (a lot of 1st cut hay can be too pokey for many piggies to want to eat). My pigs loved it, so I ordered a box of orchard grass hay and am going to mix it with this. Very nice quality though, especially for 1st cut Timothy.

This hay is clean, consistent, and (according to my bunny) delicious. It is 90% of my rabbit’s diet and she is robustly healthy at 7 years old. However, if the price continues to rise, I won’t be able to afford it. If someone had told me in 2016 that safe consistent hay would cost this much now, I probably would have burst into tears. Keeping rabbits out of shelters and rescues is hard enough as it is without jacking up the price of feeding them reliably safe and nutritious food.

Fresh green, dust free, amazing seed head and stems. Everything I was looking for in 1st cut Timothy Hay. I have shopped around on several occasions now having been let down by quality. The photo does not do the hay justice as it’s a deeper green than shown! This is without doubt the best 1st cut Timothy I have ever found. Price has previously deterred me from making a purchase, but in finding the value in the 4.54kg box, it’s definitely worth it, especially considering how much I have wasted over time.I have two older guinea pigs, and one has digestion issues, so 1st cut Timothy hay has been highly recommended and I feel it’s important to get the best I can for them. This certainly meets that criteria.Being as impressed as I was on opening the box, I was interested in seeing the responses of my piggies. I put a handful in each of my piggies cages to see how they would respond. Both piggies started eating immediately and one, the one with digestion issues, gave excited sounds when it entered the cage and didn’t stop until the hay had gone. I think this means it has their seal of approval as well!!! I will be highly recommending this at the vets and to other piggy owners. I will be a returning customer when my boys need some more!!

Primo pacco finito.

I have two chinchillas and one rabbit.I regularly need to purchase a lot of damn hay. Animals can be very picky as well. Ever since getting my bunny i learned that there are different cuts of hay. I like to try out different cuts and kinds from various places. I am always searching for a good value, good quality hay that my animals actually like and will EAT. My chinchillas seem to like softer hay while my bunny seems to like the tougher hay. However, they all want and will eat fresh hay!!!!!!!! I have gotten at least 3 orders from this company. (two 2nd cut and one 1st cut). I want to say each time , the quality was superb. The grass is green and fresh! The boxes are packed full. I recommend this brand to anyone out there that needs hay. Currently right now, Oxbow and Small Select are the two companies I'll buy hay from..Kudos to them, they seem like a very great company who values quality for their customers.

I would love to give this hay 5 stars, as my piggles love it, but after ordering the 10lb boxes of this hay three separate times, I was a little disappointed with the inconsistent quality of the hay. I should mention, my guinea pigs have loved every box of this hay, which is why it still gets 4 stars. I ordered the 12oz bag of the first cutting of the hay to let my piggles try it. I was so impressed with the quality, I ordered the 10lb box. My first box was kind of dusty, and the hay looked a bit dull compared to the super green hay I'd received in the 12oz bag, and there were some brown parts I had to throw away. It still smelled fresh, and my pigs loved it so I kept it without complaints. The second box I ordered was everything I could've imagined, super green and super fresh smelling. The first cutting contains TONS of seed heads, which my piggles adore, but also a lot of thick stalky bits they never finish, so I end up having to discard quite a bit, even though they chow down on this hay. A few days ago I had my mom order the second cutting for me to see if I could waste less hay while cleaning their cage, and while there was a lot of fresh fragrant green hay, there was also quite a bit of brown hay as well. More than I'd ever received in any of the hay I'd ordered previously. And of course, as usual, my pigs still love this hay as well, so I will keep it. So, to sum everything up, would I recommend this brand? Sure, my piggles have loved every box of hay I've received from small pet select, but keep in mind, the quality may vary some from box to box.

This is the best hay I've ever purchased! Really long, really soft hay with a lot of tops. I keep my hay in large sealed bins in my closet, and the Small Pet Select hay has filled my room with its sweet green tea like smell. I always thought my bunny was just a picky eater, turns out she just knows quality when she sees it. I had no idea what crap hay I used to buy at pet stores. I usually try to find large packages of hay online instead of buying much smaller packages in store, so that way I'm making less trips. So my original intent in purchasing the Small Pet Select was simply that they have very large packages. My rabbit is 2.2lbs so 10lbs of hay lasts a really long time. It may not last that long though, with how much she's been happily munching at it. Now I'm only going to buy Small Pet Select hay from now on because the amazing quality is absolutely the best and unrivalled. My bun is clearly so much happier too, and that's the best review I think they could get; from the small pets themselves!
