The grade 8 steel flat washer has a zinc yellow-chromate plated finish and meets American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME B18.22.1 specifications. The flat washer provides a bearing surface for fastener load distribution or is used as a spacer between components. Grade 8 steel is stronger than grade 5 steel, and is often used in applications where strength is the primary consideration. The zinc yellow-chromate plating offers good corrosion resistance.
Washers distribute the load of a fastener across a surface and can also be used as spacers, springs, shims, or locking devices. Several different washer styles fit a variety of application and installation requirements. The most common style is a flat washer. More specialized washers provide additional benefits. A cup washer, for example, helps protect fasteners from electrical currents, while a lock washer offers additional security in an assembled workpiece.

These are not 0.135" thick. That is fairly thick for a washer this size, and is the reason I ordered them. They are 0.095". Just a pretty typical 5/8 flat washer. So, useless for the reason I got them, I should return, but just put them "in stock". They are also not really 5/8" (0.625"), they are a bit over 0.650". That is typical, they are still nominally 5/8 to me, but fairly loose on a 5/8" shaft. They only dimension close is the one that matters least to most people, the OD., which is 1.314. Advertising the 0.135" thickness, in thousandths, implies, to me, probably +/- 0.005". More than a millimeter undersized is crap- just don't bother to advertise the thickness, then I'd have nothing to complain about. I find dimensions of many things sold here to be either inaccurate, omitted, or about something irrelevant, such as a replacement knob sold with dimensions of the packaging given (useless info), but not the shaft size it fits (essential info). Amazon- please learn that dimensions are essential, should be given, should be accurate! These washers are otherwise nice- just described poorly.

These are awesome washers. I bought one box for the laundry room and one for the kitchen. Now my laundry is cleaned, dried, and folded and my dishes are sparkling clean. These washers are what other washers dream to be.
