On first use, screw holding handle's two body halves fell out (over tightened, broken). unit seems less than sturdy to maintain blade squared up to work pieces.

Great saw! I am not a carpenter so I dont need a super powerful or heavy skilsaw, I usually only use it for cutting 2x4's or plywood to strap and secure pipe or plumbing fixtures inside of framing, which this saw is perfect for, its extremely lightweight, I mean really light, and it actually has some pretty good power! at a good price too. the light on top that indicates you have power to the tool is great too, just like the cords with the light, so you dont need to wonder if youre connected before givin the wood the work. It is all plastic though, but thats why its so light and its not a super high end worm driven saw meant to cut the world in half. If youre looking for an affordable lightweight saw for small tasks thats still reliable this a great saw.

The purchase of this Skil 5180-01 circular saw was prompted by having loaned my previous saw out to someone who apparently never returned it. I had a week-end project I've been putting off for awhile and I got motivated to go out and buy the plywood to do it, only to find out later that I was missing my saw. So I ordered one of these - mainly based on the price and the availability. For the price this is a pretty decent piece of equipment, but make no mistake - it's not what I would call professional contractor grade equipment. But for occasional DIY home project use its very serviceable. Especially given you get a blade with carbide tips. I highly recommend reading the instructions / safety guide if you've never operated something like this. And wear safety glasses when operating it (it makes a lot of sawdust).Setup was easy, just install the blade and you're ready to go. The adjustment for the depth of cut is sort of wonky (IMO), but I can work with it. I also thought the trigger safety was awkward to disengage, but again that's sort of the point of a safety feature.All-in-all I think this saw will do till I get around to buying something more heavy-duty. But for now I've been just using it to cut 3/8" plywood into 4'x8" strips and it's doing an adequate job of that. I'm happy with my purchase.

I can only compare to my 40+ year old B&D 1-1/4hp 9amp circular saw which is dying. By comparison this saw is much lighter and significantly more powerful . I cross cut cherry 4/4 lumber all day and this saw cut like butter. I did not find the lock mechanism for the trigger that much of annoyance and the build given the all plastic body and blade guide is satisfactory (partly responsible for the weight reduction). Lever lock for the height adjustment works well. The metal base is comparable to my old B&D and the angle adjustment hold well and is easy to adjust.

Bottom guard is getting stuck on thicker material. Other than that works fine.
