Every residence should have at least one smoke alarm and one carbon monoxide detector. This device combines both into one self-contained unit. The detector comes with the necessary screws with which to secure the base to a ceiling or wall. The detector itself sits firmly and securely in the base. When the detector is secured in the base by turning it to the right, it automatically activates the sensors. The device is good for 10 years from the date of manufacture and then must be replaced. The expiration date is clearly posted on the back of the device. The detector itself is simple to use. There is a large button in the center of the sensor. It is recommended you periodically do a long press on the button to test the device to ensure it’s working properly. in the event of an alarm, a smoke issue is announced by three beeps and the word fire, while carbon monoxide detection is announced by four beeps and an announcement. The alarm can be turned off by pressing the button in the center of the detector. Every residence should have a combo smoke/CO2 detector in front of every sleeping area as well as by the kitchen. In a multilevel residence, there should be at least one detector at every level. This detector can save a life. If you do not have one, do yourself and your family, a big favor and get at least one and then install it. It does you no good in a drawer.

I love that this has a 10-year battery built in, has a voice function that goes beyond basic beeps for warnings, and that it is smart enough to distinguish between cooking smoke and a more serious fire. THe design looks great, feels super solid, and was a breeze to install. Overall, I'm totally happy with this detector.

It is a smoke/CO detector. I like that they have a 10 year battery so I do not have to change the battery so often. They also look nice not just a blob on the ceiling.

I ordered this combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector to replace separate units that I previously purchased. I have owned several smoke detectors and a single carbon monoxide detector for decades. I test them all periodically, and none have had to be replaced.That said, I like the functionality of this unit, along with the fact that I don't have to climb up on a ladder and fiddle around on the ceiling to install it on the ceiling. The carbon monoxide detector which this unit is replacing is mounted on a wall and, although it's a different shape, I can mount this in the same spot without too much fuss. I may need to do some touch up painting, but it shouldn't be a big deal. Plus, I can use my step ladder to reach up to the spot.It does concern me that this unit will need to be replaced once the battery dies in ten years, but ten years is enough time to get your money's worth. Plus, by that time no doubt there will be some new gadget that will make you want to replace the old one anyway.I also like the fact that this unit has voice alerts. Occasionally my old units will start chirping out of the blue, and I have to grab my manual to figure out whether it's an actual alarm or the battery needs to be replaced. (Depends on the pattern of the chirps) Much more convenient that the voice alert on this one tells you specifically what's going on.So I'd have to say that this is a worthwhile investment that averages out to around $5.29 per year, plus tax. The less expensive units that I've owned for years do not have the dual function, nor do they talk. For that reason, it's a yes for me!

UPDATE: After much back and forth with the manufacturer, I finally got the correct instructions for pairing/interconnecting the units and it seems to work. Again, they sent me a video link. There are still not written instructions which I don't understand but at least I can proceed and do not have to return these. - - - I have been unable to get these to interconnect as advertised. You can see the stellar instructions! That's it. That's all the instructions in the manual. They also sent me a video link which was for a different product. Tried it anyway but still no luck. Guess I'll have to return them.

The most important thing to know about this ten year detector is that it appears to deactivate and perish should you need to remove it from the mounting plate.I photographed the information from the back sticker before attaching the plate.I tested it by pressing the center button. Know that the test won't work until the bottom plate is installed. I received a shrill "fire" warning that was repeated for my convenience in French.Another thing that concerns me is that my unit does not have lights as other reviewers have mentioned. No red or green lights to see here as seen in the product image. I can only assume that I was sent a non working unit. But I did see something mentioned about the test button producing a ten hour do not disturb mode. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is between receiving the "test" or the ten hour "do not disturb" mode when the center button is pushed. Apparently, one push can produce either feature, but how do you determine which feature will engage when you are learning the product? At any rate, ten hours later I pushed the button again and never saw a led. I finally made the room dark and lo and behold I witnessed a quick green flash appear .The instructions seem to be scattered around, some on the instruction sheet, some on the unit itself and elsewhere. There doesn't seem to be a place where one can quickly view the most relevant information. Watching the product video has taught me that to stop a sounding alarm, one touch of the center button is all that is required.Being a time tested product, I won't be able to tell you until later, when a true smoke problem occurs if the product works as it should. I just don't have the courage to simulate an event. Rest assured, I will report back but until then, no news is good news!I love the idea of not worrying for ten years and not worrying about wiring. Thank you for letting me test this product.
