About this item

  • Combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm – Smoke and CO sensing technologies work together to detect real fires faster and reduce nuisance alarms.
  • Voice alarm – Announces the hazard type detected thereby helping to speed up the correct reaction. Alarm announces “Fire” when a smoke or fire hazard is detected and announces “Warning Carbon Monoxide” when a CO hazard is detected.
  • Sealed-in lithium battery – Sealed-in lithium power supply; No battery replacement required over the 10 year life of the alarm. Eliminates worry about battery removal or unauthorized deactivation of alarm.
  • Photoelectric sensor – Smoke alarm contains advanced photoelectric sensor that may detect visible particles (associated with smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms.
  • Self-activation – Alarm automatically activates when attached to the mounting bracket.

The Kidde P3010CU is a 10-year, sealed battery, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm with a voice warning system that features photoelectric and electrochemical sensing technology with Smart Hush feature. This combination alarm combines the detection capabilities of a photoelectric sensor with that of an electrochemical sensor, which is used to detect CO. When either sensor notices a potential hazard, it will communicate with the other. Depending on what is detected, the alarm will adjust its smoke sensitivity in order to better discriminate between a real hazard and a false one. This constant communication enhances the alarm’s overall performance and significantly reduces the potential for a nuisance alarm. The voice warning system announces “Fire”, or “Warning, Carbon Monoxide” to help eliminate any confusion and clearly warn you and your family of a smoke or carbon monoxide danger. The sealed in lithium battery will power the unit for the entirety of its 10 year life, eliminating the need for battery replacement and worry about unauthorized battery removal. The alarm provides continuous protection from smoke and carbon monoxide, even during power outages. The alarm will automatically activate when it is attached to the mounting bracket; there are no pull-tabs, no switches, everything is automatic. At the end of alarm life, the unit will chirp, indicating the alarm is in need of replacement. The customer can use a simple tool such as a screwdriver to deactivate the unit, stopping the chirp and making it safe for disposal.

So far so good. It hasn't been 10 years yet, but the last ones I had lasted as long as they said. These are easy to install and loud!

My previous Kidde smoke and Carbon Monoxide alarm would inevitably start issuing a low battery warning in the dead of night and typically during Christmas (no kidding - 2 alarmed on Christmas Eve 2hrs apart starting at 1am).So, I looked for a unit that was lifetime battery and found this from Kidde. YES, it is more expensive to buy. BUT I figured if I subtracted the cost of the 10 or so 9V batteries I didn't have to install @ $3-$5/9v, and take another look at the cost of this device, it ends up same but in my case cheaper than a regular unit.PLUS, now I no longer have to wake up on Christmas Eve or some other late night to change the battery and fuss about getting ladders etc. The value of my sleep is priceless. For installation, a new ceiling mount ring - of the same size as my previous ceiling mount - is needed, just replace with the new mounting ring and the unit snaps right in. Once you snap in, the unit automatically activates and goes through the standard alarm messages and then it's done. Cannot be easier!

Only problem was that in nice long time since our first one the mounting plate had changed so it more complicated to put up than we anticipated.

The photoelectric sensor is highly responsive, reducing the chances of false alarms from things like cooking smoke, while the CO sensor is a crucial layer of protection.Another excellent feature is the voice warning system, which clearly announces the type of hazard (either smoke or CO), adding an extra layer of clarity in emergency situations. The voice alert, combined with an 85-decibel alarm, ensures you’ll be immediately aware of any issues. With a 10-year sealed battery, this unit is maintenance-free—no more changing batteries or worrying about power failures. I hate changing batteries in these things. This one is advertised to go five years with one internal battery. Too bad that battery is sealed inside and not replaceable. At about $60, this costs $1 per month to own. I will climb up my ladder in five years and gripe about that. Meanwhile I will live in peace with this unit on my ceiling.

I installed this unit in January of 2022. It’s May of 2023 - and I’ve had 2 bad false alarms in the past week (of course, both in the dead of night). I only need this unit as a CO detector, I have multiple other smoke alarms hardwired through the house and one is in the same hallway as this unit. The unit started blaring for “FIRE” and bleary eyed at 3am I was horrified to discover there’s no “off” button. No way to tell the unit “you are mistaken, be quiet” so my house with sleeping kids can stay asleep. So we all got to have a terrible night while I’m trying to smash this thing or smother it with pillows. The first false alarm it stopped after 1-2 dreadful minutes, the second false alarm was more like… 10-20 minutes? There’s a “permanent kill switch” on the back of the unit - you’re supposed to break a little plastic tab and then twist a compartment when it reaches EOL to disconnect the battery. I broke the tab and the plastic twist cap won’t twist - the plastic literally gave out before letting me twist the battery compartment in either direction… So it’s still on, and I have to figure out how to dispose of this thing without my family or my neighbors going insane.Terrible product design and now I’m frustrated having read a bunch of other reviewers who had units go bad after only 1-2 years. Save yourself the headache!

Smoke alarms provide peace of mind--and this one does have a carbon monoxide alarm, as well. And it is easy to install. That said, I ordered a few last year (2021) and I am now ordering one replacement because (out of the three I ordered) one malfunctioned (and I could not turn off the alarm....yikes!). So I am back now, replacing one of the three....sigh.Like you, I read reviews--and I always want to thank the reviewers for taking the time to tell others about their purchases (the Amazon community is wonderful, helping each other to make purchases they will be happy with!). I was able to install both of these fast utilizing the old Kidde CO alarm screw holes. No batteries. Tested. Works great so far. We will see if it last the 10 years as promised. The last ones, which were battery operated, lasted 8.5 years. Not too bad.

I needed to add a few more smoke detectors with the carbon monoxide sensor. This unit has a built-in 10 year battery. Installation was easy. It beeps extremely loud and says a message whether detects fire or CO. I have experienced setting it off accidentally while dusting where the particles set it off. It can get annoying and difficult to get it to stop. I had to get out the manual and remove it pushing a button until eventually it went quiet. No more dusting around it.

Time will tell if the incorporated 10yr battery holds up. If it does, it’ll keep from using 20 9v batteries during it’s life span. Install of the bracket was fairly easy with a cordless drill. Screws/ anchors were included. The average life span of ANY smoke detector is 8-10 yrs. Most people are unaware that as a smoke detector ages, it gets MORE sensitive, instead of getting weaker over time. If you can strike a match to light a candle, and the detector on the other side of your house is going off, it’s got to go. The steam from my shower was tripping our previous detector. LOL

I have a couple of these and like them. They come with a small (quarter to half-dollar size) mounting bracket and include the screws and anchors necessary for the installation. Once the unit is installed it self-actuates and runs through a smoke and CO detection notification cycle. The only trouble I've had was that my last one ordered from Amazon did not have the mounting bracket or screws included in the manufacturer's blister packaging. Without the mounting bracket you can't activate the smoke alarm, so make sure that yours includes the mounting bracket and hardware. I am returning this unit for a replacement. Fortunately, Amazon's return policy is good! Post Script: The replacement package included all the parts. Installed and working.
