The new codes in my area require a "sealed" well cap. I sold the home and the current well cap needed to be replaced. This Simmons cap fit perfectly and is much more substantial "heavy duty" compared to the 30 year old cap it replaced. Replacement requires routing the wires through the cap opening, this required detaching the pump wires and re-attaching them, I used a connector and heat shrink tube kit from Amazon to connect and seal the wires. Total install took about 20 minutes. I am now compliant! The cap does have a vent hole underneath with a screen over it, so the fact that it is a "watertight" well cap is kinda a misnomer. The area around the well does not flood so no issues with the vent. Love it!

It is a very solid product. Unfortunately for me I assumed that the OD of the well pipe is 6 inches but it is a 7 inch OD pipe. I have been using different size pipes for decades and until now I had never run into a 7 inch. It really set back my schedule on the project. I spent a lot of time looking a 7 inch well cap that is the same quality as Simmons.

This cap has a 1” NPT threaded connection point for the electrical conduit. On the description, it is listed as a 1-1/4” threaded conduit connection point. I specifically asked if this cap did indeed have the 1-1/4” connection point and was told “yes”. Apparently some people that answer amazon questions just reiterate the description because they think people are too dumb to read the description.

This product was well built and easy to install. You will need to purchase a 1" conduit fitting for the adapter to properly install the electric line for the well pump.

Be sure this is the size you need. The rubber seal JUST slides over a 6 1/4" OD well casing. The seal is heavy 1/4" rubber. I would not want to try stretching it, but I suppose it might be possible. Being cast iron makes it a little heavy and difficult to hold in place while tightening five bolts, but one person can do it. I drilled a 5/8 hole in the top and installed a rubber boat drain plug so I could chlorinate the well without removing the entire cap.I changed all fasteners to stainless steel, and added washers. The well cap will sweat on a humid day and rust the fasteners quickly. When removal is necessary, I'm sure it will be an emergency, and I don't want rusted bolts. The cap has plenty of room for 4 - #10 wires, typical in most submersible well applications. I wrapped electrical tape around the wires at the pinch point anyway just in case, as the old cap had pinched the wire insulation slightly. The cap has a ground lug, be sure to use it, may save your pump during a lightning strike some day. The cap has a small tight mesh brass vent. Check it once in a while to make sure it is clear. If the vent doesn't allow air to enter, the pump will draw a vacuum in the shaft and eventually damage the pump. All in all, this is a quality sanitary well cap at a decent price. I'm glad I purchased it.

It forms a great seal. The design is good. The paint job is inadequate. The paint flakes off too easy.

Very well made. Sealed well. Did the necessary job. The cap is heavy duty and seals well keeping out insects.
