The Sigma 56mm f/1.4 lens for Sony E-Mount has quickly become one of my favorite lenses for portrait photography. Its performance, combined with its compact size, makes it a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a high-quality prime lens. Here’s what I love about it:Incredibly Sharp: The image quality is superb! It delivers razor-sharp focus with beautiful bokeh, especially wide open at f/1.4. Perfect for portraits or low-light shooting.Compact & Lightweight: Despite its high performance, it’s very compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around for all-day shoots.Fast and Quiet Autofocus: The autofocus is fast, accurate, and quiet—ideal for both photography and video work. I’ve had no issues with focus hunting, even in challenging lighting.Affordable for the Quality: For the price, the Sigma 56mm offers incredible value. It rivals much more expensive lenses in terms of quality, and it’s a must-have for any Sony shooter looking for a versatile prime lens.Solid Build: The lens feels durable and well-built without being bulky. It’s also well-balanced on my Sony mirrorless camera, making it a joy to use.Overall, if you’re looking for a prime lens that delivers sharp images, smooth bokeh, and excellent performance at a reasonable price, the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 is a top pick. Highly recommend it for portrait photographers and everyday use!

Coming from a higher MP camera (A7R2) with high quality lenses, to the a6700 with this 56mm, I can say for sure this lens is up there with the best portrait style lenses available, no doubt. I miss my 42MP R2, but I don't feel like i need more quality at all and im the picky type. Even for landscape style pictures.. etc.. it does very well on the a6000 series. If you want another sharp lens for the 6000 series, look at the Sigma 23mm that came out recently, its arguably sharper than this 56, another favorite of mine!God bless

I am still learning a lot about photography. I used this was an a6700, and it works wonderfully, but sometimes there is a weird delay between when I press the capture button and when it takes the photo. This only seems to happen if I am taking a lot of photos at once. I'm not sure if it's the lens or the camera, but my second lens (Sony brand) doesn't do this. The photos and the autofocus work pretty well. At my level, I have no complaints. It also works pretty well with video. The a6700 has good IBIS, so the fact that the lens doesn't is okay. I really like the Bokeh effect in both video and pictures with this lens. This seems like a great starter lens, at least for me. I plan to get another one in this series so that I can be a bit closer when taking portraits.

I got this lens to use on my new Sony a6700. I am a full time working portrait photographer. We shoot most everything outdoors. I have been using my FF Nikon cameras and the Nikon Z 85mm 1.8 lens for a lot for portraits. Now with this 56mm on my a6700 I have started shooting some jobs with it and it is replacing using my Nikon 85mm. With the Sigma 56mm and the a6700 it is a much smaller and lighter setup and the focus system on the a6700 blows away my Nikon FF cameras by far.The background bokeh and lens sharpness from the 56mm matches the Z 85mm with no problem. The 56mm equals a 84mm f2 in full frame range. the difference from f2 VS 1.8 on the 85mm is a non issue. I will be adding on a newer Sigma that gets out to 35mm soon as well when I get a second a6700. So a 35= on one camera for the wide groups and this 56mm 84= on the other.

One of the sharpest APS-C lenses for Sony. And it is affordable. This is the best one of the Sigma APS-C primes along with the newer 23mm 1.4.

Sharp as a tack! No image stabilization and shaky as a San Andreas earthquake when shooting video, but capable of some of the sharpest still photographs you can take on the Sony e-mount system. If you are familiar with the Sony mirrorless cameras, you probably know that Sigma makes the sharpest lenses-- much higher-quality glass than Sony makes. the lens is not only take great photographs, but they feel like real lenses, with metal and heafty glass. The Sigma 16mm, 30mm, and 56mm make up a nearly perfect trifecta of prime lenses for the Sony e-mount cameras. Personally and professionally, I mainly shoot video as opposed to stills. I didn't like the 30mm because of its loud auto-focus and lack of stabilization, but the 16mm has a fairly quiet autofocus and no need for stabilization because of the wide angle, and the 56 mm also has very quiet autofocus, and I simply use it on a tripod for video work. I use a Sony 35mm prime for video.Anyway, this Sigma 56mm is just about the perfect lens for portrait work and nice, tight video shots. I love it, and I think you will too.
