This trumpet mute works well as a practice mute and I really like the compact design. The black color looks great against my trumpet's finish and the mute has a nice tone in use. While this mute is easy to use and stays put in my trumpet well as I play, it comes at a cost of roughly 3X a budget trumpet mute. Overall worthwhile product and would recommend to intermediate or advanced trumpet players.

This mute is not a good option for anyone really, not even for a budget. It restricts flow and makes it hard to play and that is not the idea of the mute. I am a trumpet player and I own a few mutes of higher quality. I would not recommend buying this one.

Excellent straight mute, especially for the price. When playing with this in my trumpet, I found it cute volume level quite sufficiently, but most importantly, it had very little air resistance, so there was no extra strain on your embouchure. When playing in the upper range the pitch stayed true and had a great quality. The compact design makes it easier to pack away in your case too. It is very functional and a very good value for the money.

Reviews seem to be all over the map for these practice mutes. I went ahead and rolled the dice to see what I think. I'll say this - The Sierra mute is, indeed, very quiet and would be a great tool for warming up when there are others around or backstage while others are performing. I'm less convinced that it would be good for long term practicing in, say, a kid's bedroom or a dorm room. Why? Well, that muting comes at a price. This is quite restrictive with a tremendous amount of backpressure. I'm not sure it's good for you physically, nor is it likely going to help you with things like intonation. So, I would characterize it as more of a warmup mute than a proper practice mute. Compared to my Ray Robinson straight mute, there's no comparison in playability. But....the Ray Robinson is SO much louder. That's the tradeoff.

This is the first mute I've owned, and I'm really happy with it.I don't often want to practice at night, but when I do I have no doubt that this will get the job done. I was blown away by how quiet it was. It's a bit harder to play because of the back pressure but I got used to it in just a couple seconds.I had some issues with it constantly falling out, but getting some moisture on it and putting some elbow grease on it got it stable.I'm really happy with this mute!

Works well but much larger than the existing mute I had from the music store. Also, my old one had a nice cork rim that allowed it to stay put, this one seems to slip out a little after playing to the point where when the trumpet gets put down, it doesn't stay in. Lastly, sounds a little louder than my original as well...no decibel meter here but to my ears it sounds slightly louder. Not sure I could recommend this one based on the size and its unwillingness to stay put. May want to look elsewhere.

I have never tried a practice mute before. This is awesome! I have a lot of students who live in apartments, with other people who need to being sleeping or not disturbed, so I will recommend this to all of them. I might try to convince my school to purchase a set, too.You can still hear yourself very clearly without much extra resistance. The mute itself isn't oversized - it's not too much bigger than the bell, maybe an inch or inch and a half sticks out past the bell. The weight it adds to the trumpet while playing is negligible; it's very lightweight. It won't fit in all trumpet cases, but it will fit in many with storage compartments.

I’m. It sure if the people that received this for review got the same thing as me. But the amount of back pressure this thing had made it unusable. It felt like there was a major blockage in the instrument. I played for 8 years and took about a 15 year break. I live in a townhouse and wanted to start playing again but not annoy the neighbors. I would search for something else because this was not it.
