This filter does what it's supposed to do. It's easy to install and is a convenient and effective alternative to using separate filters for wet and dry jobs. While I've heard some complaints that the old wet filters were easier to clean, I haven't found this to be an issue.

I haven't replaced the ancient canister filter on my 25 year-old Shop Vac for probably 20 years or more. I've just been washing it thoroughly (which is tedious, to say the least) perhaps once a year & letting it dry out. Well, that old horse just can't go another mile. I was hoping, but really didn't expect, a replacement filter canister would still be available. Well, I was wrong, and it is, and my 25+ year-old Shop Vac is running as great as ever (and I use it a lot).Now I wonder if they still sell a replacement flexible vacuum hose for it so I can retire my patched up original? 5 stars

I have 2 genuine Shop-Vac vacuums. A small, portable 5 gallon unit about 20 years old. The other vacuum is a newer, 12 gallon "industrial" series. This filter fits both perfectly. If you have some other brand of vac it may not fit. This is NOT a failure or defect in this filter. In fact, it's almost universal for real Shop-Vacs. It is easy to clean if it gets gunked-up with dust. I have an air compressor with a blow gun, I just take it to my garage and blow the dirt out from the filter, standing outdoors. No compressor? - Just bang the dirt off, carefully to avoid damage.It is NOT intended for wet pick-up, negative comments about this are invalid, it's not a defect. Also - do NOT rinse with water; it is never intended to get wet. ALL of the filters should come with a "Replacement Cartridge Filter Retainer." It is Shop-Vac Catalog No.: 30080-00, if your filter didn't come with one [mine did] you should contact Amazon and request an exchange. (At least there should have been a retainer on the old filter being replaced - save & reuse it.) The filter will not fall off if a proper retainer is used. The attached photo shows the filter retainer, and it should be included with every filter. The retainer rotates about one-quarter turn to lock the filter on. I have received a retainer with every filter I ever ordered - for the past 20+ years.

I purchased this cartridge filter to replace the paper filter I had and it is better construction and a semi-paper material that can handle some wet vacuuming but generally not designed for wet use. I use my shop-vac mostly to pick up dog hair and dust and the problem with the pleated design is it holds everything in those pleats. To prolong the life of the cartridge I blow them out with compress air and eventually that too takes it's toll on the filter and it is time for a pricey new one. So, I thought I would give other users a tip on how to prolong the life of these filter cartridges. Wrap the cartridge with paper towels when you install it. The cartridge filter takes about three sheets to completely wrap the filter center the filter on the paper towels roll it around and put a piece of tape on to hold it. Now take the ends fold them over and put it in your cleaner, done. I have seen no reduction in power or other issues and when I empty the vacuum I pop out the filter unwrap my paper towels and replace them. Paper towels are cheap but so am I and it works for me.

This is a good quality actual Shop Vac brand filter, dimensions are 7 1/2 inches outside diameter, just under 6 inches inside diameter, filter is 6 inches long and comes with the screw on cap. (I hunted for the right filter for a while for my SC14 metal wet/dry which for some reason is not listed on Shop Vac webswite). This is an excellent deal!!

I have an old Shop-Vac vacuum that I use in the garage which has served me well for the past 10 years. Unsurprisingly after all this time, the filter completely disintegrated the last time I tried to clean it.I was wary of buying from the USA but this filter arrived in reasonable time and was the correct size and seems to be of good quality.

I bought this filter for a 20 year old Shop-Vac that I own. It was the right part, it fits, it does its job, I love it!?!? I think that I love the Shop-Vac more than I do the filter. This winter (2013), I had reason to buy a different Shop-Vac for my mother-in-law. It was more vertical as opposed to the squat vacuum which I own. The old one has never tipped over, the new one tipped over many time when pulling it towards me. They both work well, but the stability is important. The filters work great and are just what is needed when dealing with drywall dust.

Great item actually expected just a normal filter but this one has metal reinforcement so should last longer.Only downfall is I didn't know it was coming from the us so shipping over xmas took a bit longer.
