I’ve made meads and wines before, but wanted to upgrade my kit. This set was great for me because it had everything for a full batch without the frills of some of the other kits that raise prices.

The stopper hole is small, and is supposed to be that way. I saw a video a guy made trying to push the airlock into the stopper, saying it wasn't the right size. It is the right size, you just need to push harder, while twisting it into place. It takes a little muscle, but isn't *that* hard. It's a nice little kit for the cost, even if the directions/recipe isn't very good. You don't want to heat a whole gallon of water, which is 4 quarts, you need about a quart of space for the honey (so if you're gonna heat the water, which is totally unnecessary if using sealed gallon jugs of spring or distilled water, only heat about 3 quarts). And, you never want to heat up your honey, as it will deteriorate the taste of it, it's also very likely been pasteurized and is basically sterile by nature (antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties make it the ideal sweetener). So, what you should do is add 3 quarts of unheated water to your carboy, add the unheated honey, then your yeast nutrient, they your yeast, then stir, or carefully shake (making sure to release the pressure from the gasses building up every few seconds if shaking it up), then let it rip.

Wir haben das 2. Mal das Set bestellt.Leider kam nur ein riesiger Scherbenhaufen bei uns Zuhause an.Warum man so einen Müll zurücksenden soll weiß ich auch nicht. Das ist ein Fall für die Tonne.Sehr schade.

So using this set up as my first time for Mead.... there are some good and bad points.PRODUCT: 1 out of 4 jugs had a busted airlock. But super cheap plastic. You can get better quality items but this will help you learn the process until you can figure out quality with each piece you need. Still works just had to tape up one of them.Alot of people I am seeing using bad reviews aren't familiar with the process. But even I make mistakes. You can ferment in the jar buy ya gonna need a pot and thermometer. But you can dodge this. Medium heat will water to 175 deg. Put in jug over night let it get to room temp before adding yeast (next day).My 4 star comes from ammount. Bought a 12lbs. bucket of honey for 4 gal of mead. 9 ended up being enough. (this was my fault) You add liquid to liquid you gonna end up with more. WAY MORE. By then end I ended up with another almost full gallon of Mix. ME trying to make 4 gallons. So now the ratio is way off. POSSIBLE USE: 1 Gallon of water minus ( - ) 32 oz. for the honey. You just end up with way too much and end up with not having 3 lbs (32oz.) of honey per gallon. And I am not a fan of under cutting anything. But directions made me do it.That being said it is a awesome set up. But the directions need a little editing.FIRST TIME USER. Just now bottled up and waiting to cool down so I will try to update after few weeks see how it comes out.UPDATE 1: Too much yeast in the instructions. You really don't need much at all. A Tsp. is almost too much. It is bubbling out of the airlock. Fill jugs under the lowest part of the handle. Honestly by an inch or more. Let you decide.

Ordered this it came with carboy(1 gal glass jug), airlock(3 piece version), yeast&nutrients, drilled plug for airlock, one page instructions and a lid for carboy. My advice: Get a pack of one step sanitizer, a large metal spoon, a big funnel, get some cheap clear fishtank hose(I have some fuel line from a weed eater repair I didn't need, it will prob work and get sanitized first but be slow due to size) and maybe a second carboy for secondary fermentation(I plan on getting a huge jug of ghetto wine and use that jug, the huge one from the bottom shelf for like 10 bucks! ha!). My mead is fermenting now and looks great. I used a free simple one gallon mead recipe online and watched some videos. The provided recipe page is excessively detailed and not a beginner level read but I cross referenced the info and it is pretty solid. I did use a meat thermometer(sanitized it also, the single long pipe stake with disc on top type from the grocery store) to track temps during cooking(you never real cook, more like warm things as nothing should get to boiling). Temperature info on the page was very useful to have as a reference. Overall it is a solid value for the low price! My last advice make a check list of stuff you are gonna need to make mead from an online site then collect them. Research then practice! Cheers

If you're looking to get into homebrewing and maybe want to start off with making a small batch, this mead making kit is easily the best value as far as I can tell. For $17 and change you not only get a 1 gal carboy with airlock/stopper/cap but also a packet of wine yeast AND yeast nutrient. The included LD Carlson yeast nutrient goes for around $10 by itself on Amazon.ca! Definitely best bang for your buck. The included mead recipe instructions are not very good, but personally I bought this kit with the intention of making wine, so that doesn't matter to me. In the future if I want to try mead, I will just fine the instructions online.Very satisfied with this kit and will definitely buy again if I need another carboy in the future.Edit: I couldn't wait and bought a second one just a day after making this review. Already arrived and received everything exactly like the first order. Now I have have two batches of juice fermenting. Really looking forward to how it will all turn out in a month or so.
