The parallels themselves are fine. But as someone else mentioned, the case is worthless. Either the parallels are a hair too short, or the fingers in the case are too short, because as soon as you tilt the case they'll all stack up on the right side. About the only good thing you can say is most of them except for the shortest couple pairs will be in order.

I needed a set of thin parallels for my 6" milling vise and decided to buy them from Shars as it is one of more established and reputable sellers. The set came in a red plastic box just like all the rest of similar sets available at different places. Each pair was lightly oiled and wrapped with thin pink paper. The box carries a couple of Shars labels and includes an inspection report with Shars name on it. The report is written in poor English and I am sure it is just a printed copy of the report and nobody inspected anything. This products claims .0001" tight tolerances and to properly inspect 40 parallels to this accuracy level takes significant time.I have used an indicator stand with a granite plate and a set of 90 degree blocks to check all parallels. I am not really equipped to check .0001" tolerance, so I did just a rough measurement trying to catch anything bigger than .0005". Five parallel pairs did not pass this test. They were tapered, warped or did not match each other by more than .0005". One of them was .002" out of tolerance. I did not expect any miracles and this set will work with my vise in most cases, but why lie about the accuracy?The inspection report claims that parallels are hardened to HRC50. I have used my Rockwell type tester on the A-scale to check this claim since C-scale is not allowed for the material this thin. I've got HRA69-70, which translates to HRC40. The material looks like spring steel and could be made a little harder than that.All parallels are kept in the blow molded plastic case with 20 side slots. But these slots were made .180" longer than parallels, enough to allow the parallels to fall out of their slots when case is tilted. The plastic latch is very hard to lock and will fail in a short time and so will the plastic hinge. This case is a joke for a set of precision tools.I will keep this set, I think the other sets are the same if not worse. If you still want to buy such a set after reading my review, buy the cheapest one. I believe they are all the same, coming from the same factory in China.

Case latch does not close and interior is too wide. The retention slots do not retain the parallels, and they end up scrambled together at one end if the case is tilted.
