Works fine, fully featured, non-intuitive UI makes it almost impossible to use.

I didn't get this for perhaps it's typical intended use of generating signals for trouble shooting PLCs and such.I got this to use an educational tool to teach kids about electronics, voltage, current and signals and the like. While initial function and configuration was a little confusing at first, it was not hard at all to understand once I read the manual. I did have to break down and read the manual to understand it. The user interface actually changes the colors of the buttons to indicate different modes that you are in and you can control different things depending on these modes.I also found some helpful youtube videos where people demonstrated how to generate some signals with the device, which I was able to reproduce. It is also cool that you can visualize your generated output signal on the display and tweak it in real time. So, long term goal is to use this to generate some signals, and then show what the signals are, what voltages and frequencies are, which this seems well equipped to do. Then, on the other side, teach how to capture and view these signals on an Oscilloscope, without requiring a full on bench unit or a controller. My initial impression of this is it will work well for that purpose, seemed relatively affordable compared to other options, and seemed quite well made.I feel I have only touched the tip of the iceberg on what it can do. In my reading of the manual and some of the videos online, you can take an input signal of one type, current for example, and convert to a voltage signal, or vice versa, which I also think could be very useful for my intended usage.I think it could be a great troubleshooting tool for the kids as well when trying to diagnose where problems might be in a system, which can be difficult for them (or all of us really). Often the question arises, is it hardware, or is it software. I could see where this could potentially take away the software side of the question. Use this to generate the signal you think the software should be generating and verify you see the results you are expecting. If you do, you can hand it off to software, with proof your hardware works. If it doesn't use this to help figure out why.

If the headline makes any sense to you, read on.Of course, this isn't a Fluke 789 and I don't expect it to do everything the Fluke can do, but what it does do, it does well and works perfectly fine. I used it to test calibration and scaling of a group of analog inputs into an industrial process control PLC. I verified the input values by monitoring the tags in a 1756-L73 processor running v33 firmware. It did exactly as you would expect. Compared to the Fluke, it seemed to consistently run between -1.5% to +1.0% variance. That was the only actual functional difference I saw and I would consider it within acceptable tolerances for the equipment I use it on.As for usability, clarity, and ease of use, it seems a little less polished than the Fluke and of course, it has its own learning curve but I don't necessarily hold that against it.It is completely unfair to compare this to a $1,200 professional piece of equipment, but that is what I did and I can say I am 100% pleased with the results. I am confident in using this for quick spot checks, as a backup, or for home use (yes, my hobbies at home are slightly nerdy too). The only negative is it comes with a Europlug for charging. This isn't a big deal as it actually charges via USB-C so you basically need a charging brick that fits into your preferred AC outlet. I doubt the people that are picking up function generators are going to be stumped on how to charge a USB-C device.I like it. Great price and professional results. The professional model literally costs more than 10x more than this does and you will get comparable results. buy this with confidence.
