My granddaughter has been asking me to teach her to sew. This book has fantastic age appropriate, easy to follow patterns for kids. Her first project was a pin cushion. She was so proud that she made it herself! And it is so useful. She has already started her next project. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this little (7years old) sewer.

Unfortunately local library did not available to review first. Was going to use for an elementary after school group, but projects weren't what I was looking for. Considered returning, but kept and may donate to library.

I bought this for my twelve year old child. I like that the sewing book is made sturdy. The patterns are included. The instructions are easy to understand and follow. We are working on making the doll skirt. I'm glad I bought this book for our classroom.

I am not a great sewer but 10 year old boy asked to learn. So we ordered this and it’s been very helpful. The authors seem really down to earth and have done a great job including little tidbits including my favourite page that lists books wear sewing is included. I would add two books to that list: Jillian jigs and her marvellous pigs and Something from Nothing both by Phoebe Gilman

I bought this book for my 11 year old, she had recently received her first sewing machine and I wanted a super basic instructional book for a beginner. This book was a perfect fit for her, it provided a variety of different projects that combined both hand stitched and sewing machine projects which she loved. The projects are easy to follow with lots of great photos to help you throughout. The sewing projects themselves are adorable, skill level appropriate and the author does a wonderful job of choosing projects that a beginner would actually want to do.

My family loves this book! I have kids ages 7, 5, 3, and 1. The 7 and 5 year old can do most of the projects all on their own with very little assistance from me. I help the 3 year old and completely do the projects so the 1 year old has something too. My 7yo is a boy and the 5 and 3yos are girlsThe instructions are well written, the patterns easy, the pictures are super helpful and the kiddos love it.

My 7 yr old son recently decided he wanted to learn how to sew. Unfortunately, so much of the sewing kits, books, and supplies are geared towards girls. He noticed it but I told him that lots of men sew and that it's a useful skill. So we got him a kit. He was excited and told a friend who then teased him for using a "girl" kit. Ugh!Enter this book. Not only is it full of beautiful photographs that help teach sewing steps, I was pleased to see how many boys were included in the photographs--sewing just like their female counterparts. The projects are fun and intrigue both girls and boys. My son absolutely loves this book! It is wonderfully written amd photographed. I highly recommend it!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 8yr old daughter and it has been really great for her. I taught her the basics of sewing and laid down the law that she had to finish a few small projects by hand before she could try a machine. I know, I'm a horribly mean mother. Shockingly she rebelled a bit, and didn't want to make the projects I suggested. This book has some really fun little projects that I never could have come up with and it has her interested in sewing again. The directions are clear and she loves that she has her own patterns. I've tried to be very hands off with her projects and the book is so well done that she has hardly needed any help. I highly recommend this to any child, or parent and child team who wants to get into sewing.

A really good book that kids can use or parents or teachers can use to help children learn to sew. There's not much use teaching only how to use a sewing machine as many sewing tasks including mending, hemming, and sewing on buttons will require some skill at hand sewing and this book teaches those skills. Very clear instructions that build skills in a logical order and allow children to learn how to sew and also make things at the same time. Two drawbacks in the book for me are 1) the use of synthetic felt which only sets up children to create cheap looking items and 2) sewing is taught as something to play at rather than as a real-life useful skill. While I'm all for having fun while creating, there are real skills to be learned and the attitude of just having fun contributes to the problems children have thinking they have to be entertained by everything that comes their way or it has no value. Luckily, I am hoping this attitude is offset by the lovely comments actual children have included that show their pride in learning and in making something new. Also the projects are rather infantile. I could sew better after one lesson from my grandmother. Children can sew much nicer projects with the skills they learn here than are presented. Even so the lessons and presentation order and advice to help children is really excellent. The photos are lovely and instructions very easy to follow. Very nice book if you are an older child who wants to learn to sew or a parent, teacher, counselor, auntie, or otherwise would like to introduce children to sewing.
