Usually, the camshaft position sensor is located near the front side or top of the engine. This can be on the top of the cylinder block, on one or both ends, or on the intake manifold, usually near the timing cover. In some cases, you may find the camshaft sensor behind the timing cover.

These would make a decent replacement and comparison to an OEM part. The plastic item is a tiny bit on the cheap side, but at full price.

I recently purchased camshaft position sensors for my BMW E92 based on good reviews and a low price. While they function well, I encountered a major issue.. they started leaking oil less than a day after installation. The problem lies with the O-ring/seal, which doesn't fit tightly. I should have suspected trouble when the O-ring was easy to push in. My advice? Don't make the same mistake. Spend a little extra and buy a quality product the first time around.
