This light has proven worthless. After only three months, the battery contacts appear to be damaged and corroded. The light won't come one if the battery cover is on because it appears that the battery contacts can't maintain contact. In addition, the battery contact corroded after about two months. Batteries had to be replaced twice in three months. This product is obviously not designed to work in mailboxes where there is any heat (like most of the world) from the sun.

6/24 UPDATE: Bought another one and yet another issue. It died 5 weeks into use. At first I thought it was the batteries as they dont last long, but Ive tried multiple duracell batteries and it wont come on. My mailman delivers after dark and I needed this to work.UPDATE: Batteries (duracell) only last 2 months. I had a feeling this would be an issue since the last mailbox light had more batteries. Changing batteries means removing the 2 sided tape in the mailbox to get to the battery door. Then purchasing 2 sided tape to replace it. Also I notice the light is slow to come on even with fresh batteries. I find this extremely frustrating just because the old one worked so well.My old Mailbox light was great. When the Batteries needed to be changed, you could remove it from the mailbox and change them because it used magnets to hold it to the mailbox. This light attaches to the mailbox via double sided tape. Im not sure how to mount it at this point. If I use the double sided tape it will be insanely difficult to remove to change the batteries. My last light (from a different manufacturer) used 3 AAA and I needed to change it about twice a year. This light has only 2 AAA batteries so it will most likely need to be changed more.

When it has a working battery in it, I do like this mailbox light. My only complaint is that it eats batteries like crazy. I don't know if it drains batteries even when the light isn't on, but I've had to change the batteries about every other month.

This worked very well for the first 4 months. Then the motion sensor/photo cell failed and now the light stays on until the batteries are drained. Frustrating.

Trust me; no one ever thinks about lighting up their mailbox. Even after I installed it my wife said, "Who collects mail in the dark?" I reminded her of standard daylight time and how at 6 PM it's already dark. I reminded her about the holidays when mail is literally delivered at 10 PM to 11 PM. Finally, I reminded her about those early morning drop-offs before driving away to work that are made in the dark. I got an agreed upon nod from her and now we can't wait to see it in practical use. Great little device, works as advertised, and you can purchase it with confidence.

This little light runs on 2 triple A batteries - I use rechargables. It has a sticky Velcro strip to attach it inside the mailbox, making it easy to remove. It turns on for 10 seconds or so each time it detects motion - which for me is everytime the door is opened. I'm at the end of the mail route so it's often dark by the time my carrier comes by. This makes it easier for her to see of she's picked up everything and easier for me to get the mail later in the evening.
