I have purchased the MZA900P in an effort to hard-wire my Sennheiser MKE-2 Gold to my SoundDevices MixPre-3 II.I had previously purchased the Rode VXLR-Pro (which converts the signal output into a balanced XLR, and the 48V Phantom power input into plug-in power), along with a Triton FetHead Broadcast (an in-line pre-amp for balanced XLR, that draws a little of the P48 to effectively lift the signal of about 20dB).I have found that the MKE-2 is VERY noisy in both chains. The noise will have a different quality to it when going through the MZA900P or the VXLR-Pro + FetHead Broadcast. In fact I prefer the noise quality in the latter case: more concentrated at lower frequencies, if ever so slightly.Testing various combinations I have come to the following conclusions:- The MZA900P seems to add about +16dB of gain- The Triton FetHead Broadcast seems to add about +20dB of gain when paired with the Rode VXLR-Pro, and about +6 of gain when paired with the MZA900P (the two are maybe fighting to get enough P48 to power both pre-amps?)If you are recording in 32bit float, gain staging appears to MOSTLY affect monitoring only. You don't need to warm up the signal to get a better separation between dialogue and noise floor: I have tested the MixPre-3 II at +0dB, +90dB, and +62-68dB (which is where I would park it for voice peaking at -12dB during monitoring). The separation between dialogue and noise floor appears to be effectively equal (I've measured differences of 2dB, which are probably due to measurement error) when you lift or pull down the recording in post. The quality of the voice does change ever so slightly with the MixPre's pre-amps maxed out.In the end I am NOT happy with the self-noise of the MKE-2, be it connected through the MZA900P or through the VXLR-Pro (with or without the FetHead Broadcast). I might have to bite the bullet and get a Sennheiser wireless kit, even just to test whether that would result in better separation. For now I just focus on booms. It's a pitty because I like how the MKE-2 represents my voice, if only it weren't so freaking noisy!

Title says it all. The adapter has a significantly less signal-to-noise ratio. I used the same Sennheiser ME 2-II lav on both this adapter and a Sennheiser SK 100 G3 transmitter/reciever. Sounds similar but super noisy.

Had a Sennheiser ME 2 lapel microphone that came with a Sennheiser EW100 kit that I bought. The microphone comes with a 3.5mm connector, but if you plug it into a microphone port, it doesn't work since it needs a pre-amp. The MZA900P simply acts as that pre-amp so you can hook up the microphone directly to your camera, mixer or recorder (Tascam, Zoom H4N, etc.)Worked perfectly for my purposes. Sound is perfect. No complaints here!
